Where, when, how? This year if I went to a river and caught a couple of cats, some 2lb walters, and a SMB I would think I died and went to heaven! Where and when for that beautiful picture? (think I know the bait is a jig and crawler)

Id go to any dam on the Mississippi from coon rapids south, except id use a jig and a fathead of course you’d have to wait until opener to for the bass and eyes

Throw out a hook line and sinker, worms will get ya most species. Might run into other species but unhook and throw back, nothing illegal about that. If all your catching is bass then yeah move down a bit. Plenty of spots I can think of where a difference of 10yds goes from all smallies to all eyes, to cats, to suckers, etc.

Some great fishing to be had for carp, catfish, suckers and bound to catch others along the way. Just be respectful of the fish and release in a timely manner without it flopping all over rocks and youll be all good.

Id stay away from a jig, that would seem suspect to me in areas closed season.

BTW I would like to eat some cats so I probably want to go north of the metro (would not eat anything over 3lbs) DNR has no restrictions on what you can and cannot use at any time of the year.

True, but unless you’re prepared to fight a ticket in court I’d play it safe. 1/4oz jig with a fathead or crawler on it isn’t your typical catfish or sucker bait. At least go down to 1/8oz whistling

If your worried about it you should probably call a co and rush them over to pool 3 inland waters. He won’t need a boat.
