Had a friend decide to kick a dead catfish when we were kids. Barb broke off in his big toe and had to be surgically removed.

    Also, you need new boots.

Dang! Lucky enough not to be stuck by one yet. I’m sure it’ll happen someday though…..

I had one stick me about a .5-.75″ deep right into the muscle between my pointer finder and thumb. By far the most painful fishing accident I’ve had and that’s including hitting a log on the river and smashing my face off the windshield at 30MPH! I thought the throbbing would never stop. My friend got quite the kick yanking it out of my hand, ha!

I thought it would be a good idea to put my foot on a channel cat wearing worn out sneakers, dorsal spine in in bottom of foot, very painful.

Strange things can happen with a catfish spine and a person’s flesh!!

I dropped a large channel catfish while standing on the deck of a jon boat, it bounced off the front of my foot and went back into the water. I was wearing hip boots and I felt a sharp pain when the fish hit my foot but did not think much of it at the time. When we were done fishing and back at the boat ramp I stepped out of the boat and I could feel a leak in my boot that the catfish hit on his way back in the water. When I removed my boot I poured out a bunch of red colored water and my sock near my big toe was bloody. Come to find out, when that catfish hit my foot it’s spine went through my boot and clear through the end of big toe just ahead of my toenail. The fishes weight had pulled the spine out when it went over the side of the boat. It didn’t hunt until a couple hours later.

I know a lady that stepped on a dead one while swimming at a beach on the Mississippi. Surgery and and IV antibiotics finally cured her.
