Been having issues with cell service inside my fish house, but when you go outside it works just fine. I’m looking at some of the different cell phone booster and wondering if anyone has tried them on their fish house and how they have worked?

I’ve been shopping on and off for one for a while but can never pull the trigger because of price. This brand seems to keep coming up as a highly recommend one if you can find a way to route the exterior antenna into your fish house.

February 8, 2019 at 1:24 pm #1833662Yep those are the ones I’ve been looking at. I think I can run it thru my tailgator hook up by getting adapters to upsize the cord to fit the normal coax cable. Just don’t want to drop $500 on something that doesn’t help out much.
February 8, 2019 at 3:29 pm #1833702Um 500 bucks to boost your cell service? Just step out side my goodness that’s ridiculous.
February 8, 2019 at 3:40 pm #1833708Moving the house doesn’t matter as it happens all over. Have an ice castle and at some of the lakes I fish barely have service outside.
Not just for making a call, more for streaming stuff to mirror on TV, using internet/Pandora, ect. But yea $500 is more than I’m wanting to spend for sure.
February 8, 2019 at 3:46 pm #1833709Enjoy your outing and turn the phone off. It’s amazing how everyone seems to live and die by a phone.

Die-ing ain’t much of a living boy…
February 8, 2019 at 3:52 pm #1833713Yeah it’s nice to stream movies and stuff to the TV. But dang 500 bucks for such a ordeal.
Did we try tin foil yetFebruary 8, 2019 at 4:06 pm #1833720Enjoy your outing and turn the phone off. It’s amazing how everyone seems to live and die by a phone.
In most cases, I agree with you and when I’m out fishing alone, the phone rarely comes out of my pocket.
In my wheelhouse with a 3 yr old and a 15mo old though, you need cell/data to keep them occupied for a weekend. Especially if it’s too cold to take them outside to play. So if I want to spend the weekend in my wheelhouse, I need ways to keep the kids occupied. Unfortunately, cell/data service is a big part of that these days.
BUT…$500 is still too high for me to justify.
February 8, 2019 at 4:33 pm #1833728Back eons ago we use to have these things called DVD players. Hooked right to the TV. You can buy DVD’s all over for a $1 or two. Your kid won’t know if it’s a DVD or streaming service and you will have 100’s to spend on something else.

Wow, I wonder how previous parents ever survived and flourished in the pre-cell, pre-data era. I did not grow up with an “electronic baby sitter” (no, not even a TV) and I’m pretty sure my parents didn’t either nor their parents.
Spend a weekend in your wheelhouse with your kids. They will enjoy having your attention and you may find out you like interacting with them as well.February 8, 2019 at 7:47 pm #1833793They will enjoy having your attention and you may find out you like interacting with them as well.

February 8, 2019 at 7:48 pm #1833795I now recall why I don’t discuss parenting on the internet. Too many “bellybuttons”.
I think (hope) we can all agree raising children changes from generation to generation.
Tight lines all!

I agree. Dont worry I’m in your boat or “wheel house” as well. I just thought that was funny

I’d still be trying tin foil

DTIowaboy1Posts: 3827February 9, 2019 at 12:11 am #1833902absolutely not trying to tell you how to raise your child, got it??
my stepson came into my life when he was nine years old,all he knew was tv and games of all sorts.
I took all of those things from him one weekend and we went for a walk down the creek bank,I showed him how beavers felled a tree, muskrats dug dens in the banks, how fish found deep pools to avoid the heat and how to dissect an owl pellet to see what they had for dinner.at first he wasnt thrilled but once his eyes were opened to a world he never knew he couldnt get enough of it and the games became a thing of the past.
mind you, this was a city kid who grew up in a trailer court and didnt know any better.
our weekends together became fun,we climbed trees, built shelters out of what nature provided, fished with willow branches and kite string, didnt go so far to make hooks out of bone, gotta be honest about that.I taught him how to operate an old farmall tractor to till the ground and how to plant a crop for the wildlife, how to take care of animals and teach him they eat and drink before you do.
I could go on but wont, just be mindful today he is serving our country part time, got his marksmanship award thanks to yours truly, and ya,I am proud of him !!
children look to you for direction, fun, and food, find a way to put that all together whether you be on a lake covered in snow and ice,or simple stream nearby.you may not have access to the things I do and if you cant think of anything, close your eyes and think for a minute, you surely have something to pass on from when you were their age,if not,you can learn together.
the whole world is out there, seek and you shall find it.deertrackerPosts: 9249February 9, 2019 at 12:57 am #1833903Was that reply for me or the OP who’s kids are now screwed for life because he wants a cell phone booster?

February 9, 2019 at 8:51 am #1833927My neighbor had one that his cell phone provider sold him. I believe it was Verizon. You might try there, it enhanced his indoor reception significantly.
February 9, 2019 at 9:20 am #1833931Years ago we got one sold through our provider (at&t) for the house as I needed better reception for the work calls. It helped, but not as much as I hoped. I don’t remember it being but 150 way back then and I’d think anything sold now should cost less (electronics). Was eventually told even a booster can’t do much in an area where the signal is week to begin with?
Sure is nice how do many feel the need to spew opinions that offer no help or assistance to the need of the original post. I didn’t recall it being about your parenting advice

He was kinda of looking for cheaper alternatives is the way I read it. Anyway when you go on a FREE public forum and you ask a question to a bunch of guys with nothing to do besides sit in front of a screen you get what you get.
Lets not get so thin skinned that we can’t see the humor in some of the responses and the alternatives some guys posted. Some are really good ideas.
Lots of snow, it’s cold, guys are stuck inside. Take everything with a grain of salt and don’t take yourselves to seriously.
February 11, 2019 at 7:38 am #1834306Wow this got out of hand/off topic in a hurry. Thanks for the guys that actually posted some helpful information on cell phone boosters. I’ll keep looking for some cheaper boosters.
And thanks for all the unsolicited parenting advice, will work well on my zero kids…

Fred GarvinPosts: 33February 12, 2019 at 7:39 am #1834631Since you have service outside of your your fish house you could get by with a couple passive antennas, meaning no amplifier or booster hardware needed.
The antennas would be able to supply the gain needed to receive signal inside.
I am a recently retired Network Field Engineer for a wireless carrier, used this for the past 20 years when working in the sticks on outages with low/no coverage inside the building.
For those going with a booster/amplifier/repeater, be careful buy, there is some real junk out there, shut down 6 of them last year for causing interference on an FCC licensed frequency. These guys are out of Rochester MN, give them a call and explain what you want to do, should be able to set you up for $50 – $100
