I’ll be heading to namakan end of May. Will be my first time. Just curious how the cell phone reception is up that way. I have Verizon. Not sure what the other fellas in the group have. Interested to know primarily for my planning. A phone could be used to get weather reports, place a call in an emergency, backup navigation with navionics and listening to radio. If my phone can’t do those things with some consistency I may look at buying a marine radio to help with the weather and emergency situation

    AT&T is what you want.

I get enough (verizon) to call/text on the west side of the lake, east side is iffy to not at all.

I’ve not had issues looking up my weather app (on west side) but have wifi at resort so don’t often need to use phone reception for data usage stuff (don’t use my phone much when up there other than a camera).

*I missed it being namakan, I was thinking Kab*

I spent a lot of time camping on Namakan before I even had a cell phone. Ain’t like it’s unexplored wilderness. You’ll see plenty of other boats. Carry a flare gun and a red flag it you’re that worried. But now that I have a cell phone I have to call my wife every night…. roll I have ATT, no reception problems at all.

    Crappie,
There is a cell tower in Ash River that is ATT, which is what I have. I get good reception east to at least Pike island on Namakan. Excellent reception at the Wolf Pack islands. Also decent up to about Mica island going towards Kettle Falls.
I don’t typically end up in Sand Point other than for a joy ride, so not sure on the far east end of Nam and Sand Point.
On our guys trip my bud has Verizon and his is iffy at the Wolf Packs, he usually uses mine if he needs to call out.

East end of Rainy is a whole different matter. Almost all Canadian tower reception there.

    Which site did you get?

Ah nice, you got Spider island for Memorial again. Hoping water levels are normal this year for you and everyone so you can enjoy the site/area.
Guessing you meant Lost Bay Island, you will like it. Been there a handful of times.
I’ve got Mica bay for a week late July, and McManus for 5 days mid August so far. Skipping our usual week at the Wolf Packs over the 4th this year, as were headed to Glacier hiking for the week. Hoping to get a short trip in during June, last minute.

We were on Williams Island South last summer and I got fair Verizon reception in camp. Walk down the bank to the boat and I’d lose it.

Every time I get a newer, better phone the reception gets worse. ???
