thinking about switching carriers whats the pros and cons and who likes what
yes this is a Ford versus Chevy debate I know
Verizon has never let me down in the cities, and gets better coverage than most out of town. Spendier, but we’ve been happy with it for years now. For that I’ll stay.
Because i run my business off it I’m willing to fork over the dough, if I wasn’t it might be a different story.
We pay $200 about for 3 lines and 16gb I believe.
I have had both. No matter the promotions Verizon comes out with I would never go back there. My experience is completely opposite of Nicks. I seldom lose signal with AT&T. If you travel it’s a no brainer in my opinion. If you stay local then Verizon might be for you.
Like you said, it’s a Ford vs Chevy thing.
Verizon works great for me even in the bluff lands of NE or River valley of WI. Red Lake works great and buddies have other carries and trouble working if at all.
Verizon is very good to me and have taken care of phones or any issues that might come up.
AT&T did not work for trips or my house at times in the cities. My buddy just left sprint for the same reason phone did not work at his house in Inver Grove.
I switched to Verizon about 7 years ago because AT&T and T-Mobile did not then, and still does not have coverage in my hometown of Ortonville and the surrounding area. Verizon is more expensive but is essentially the only choice if you spend any sort of time in western MN, SD, and ND. Other areas of MN the choice is more of a coin flip but Verizon’s coverage has been very reliable for me.
Hope this helps, good luck.
I have had Verizon for 10 years now, before that was Sprint. Everyone I know has now switched to Verizon. AT&T is a close second, but every friend of mine who had AT&T now has verizon with MUCH better success. Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure Dutchy’s comment about Verizon is the first negative I have heard about Verizon’s signal. Now Verizon prices, that’s another topic for discussion…
If I was offered free service from T-Mobile, Sprint or AT&T, I would still turn it down and pay the astronomical prices for Verizon.
I have Verizon
ATt p issed me off when they lied to me saying when I was in Canada that as long as I was on Wi-Fi I could use my phone for text messaging…well turns out it was only for I messaging…came home to a ridiculous phone bill was not happy…their international plan also sucks u pay for a whole month even if your only there for a day
I was not satisfied with their customer service locally or on the phone either
Att coverage also wasn’t near as good as my Verizon is and when I switched my new Verizon phone wasn’t working and I was getting messages on my old AT&T phone ..again that was an AT&T issue…they neglected to deactivate my old phone so 2 hours later on the phone with a person that spoke very little English it was resolved
2$ per day for international in Canada and mexico..thag includes everything calls data texts u name it
We have 18g w 3 phones and I pay roughly 275…but that’s with the device payments. There is no love lost for me and AT&T
Yea Verizon costs more but overall way happier w customer service and the network speed is also much faster and better coverage
currently we have Verizon but both my FW and I are looking for new phones. I’m tired of my broken screen and the FW wants to upgrade her S5.
we already have Direct TV which is now AT&T
but we have been with Verizon for at least 6 years now….
oh the choices…..
I switched from Verizon to t-moble and could not be happier, coverage at home is a little better and at work it is a lot better and the rates are way better.
Did not have unlimited with Verizon and I have unlimited everything and a new 8plus and am saving 8 dollars a month.
I have at&t for myself and Verizon for work. I usually have both with me. It’s really rare to see at&t with more coverage than Verizon. Though there are still places where neither work. If you spend time on lotw or url, than I would go Verizon. Otherwise it’s a coin flip.
NEVER WILL I EVER USE ATT AGAIN- NEVER. worst company I have ever dealt with.
Back in the days of analog, att ruled. Best coverage, reasonable pricing.. When the digital age rolled in, att fell off the cliff. I remained a loyal customer for way too long. Prices skyrocketed and my coverage continued to shrink. Promised discounts that never were applied to my account, signed up under a “courtesy discount” because of the horrible service. Bill came and it was almost 3 times what on was quoted. Their excuse…that promotion wasn’t authorized. When I refused to pay the difference, they turned it over to a collection agency. I had been with them since the days of bag phones….. obviously there were a lot of calls to customer service with no resolve and too much to type out here. When I jumped to Verizon, AT&T refused to release my number and we couldn’t port that over.
Verizon has cost me a little more, but coverage has been better. Better customer service. Better and truthful billing practices.
I have been a customer of Verizon for 17 years. I am very happy with Verizon. Like others have already said, it is a little more expensive but it is worth it. The coverage areas are great and also the network speeds. My work phone is also Verizon, I have noticed that different phones receive the cell signals better or worse than others. Customer service has always been helpful. I did have one problem where the salesperson at the verizon store told me I could return a mobile hotspot for a full refund within a certain number of days if it didn’t work out for me. I returned it and their were charges on my next bill for it. Customer service reversed those charges with no hassle.
Yep you’re IDO’s relic.
Well I don’t know about that. I mean somebody has to be older. Let me think, oh well forget it. Maybe I am the oldest.
Here is a twist . Not a phone guru but this seems rather significant.
Last week, T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) announced that it had added an additional 430 markets to its LTE Advanced network. The new LTE Advanced signals allow phones equipped with Qualcomm ‘s Snapdragon Gigabit LTE modems to receive blazing fast wireless speed — a live demonstration showed download speeds of 611 Mbps. For context, the average mobile download speed in the U.S. is just under 23 Mbps.
The news expands T-Mobile’s LTE Advanced footprint to more than 920 markets, more than any other U.S. wireless carrier.
Verizon SUCKs and SUCKS and SUCKS!
In our area up north 3 years ago on the 4th of July they changed something and ever since they truly SUCK!!!
Dropped calls, bad connections, cant call at all…..Did I say they SUCK!!!!!!
I feel better now.
If you have Xfinity internet at home, do yourself a favor and look into Xfinity Mobile. We switched this summer, and the savings are huge over Verizon, and they use Verizon’s towers.
I currently have Verizon. When my wife and I travel it seems like one or the other works better. I’m thinking about splitting our plans so that one of us has the phone that works at all times.
Verizon’s Tech support at the local stores stunk and I was ready to make the switch. Then I found the Tech Support app which is awesome.
I have never had Verizon as a carrier. My wife and I have always been on the AT&T network. But not always with AT&T. We have found that connections with AT&T maybe spotty in less densely populated areas. We were in Spruce Head, Maine recently and we couldn’t get service. As we got closer to Portland, Maine service returned. Our hosts had Verizon and theirs worked just fine.
We have also found that between St. Louis, Mo and Crosslake, MN (a route that we traveled many time) it work flawlessly.
If you don’t need personal contact for service and already own you phone, I would look at one of the low cost re-sellers.
I have a Red Pocket subscription plan the cost $10.19/month including tax and fees for 500 minutes talk, 500 texts, and I think 500 megabyte of data.
My uses her uses phone more and she has Straight Talk.
All I can say is where I fish on Pool 3 and 4 Verizon has service where few if any other carriers do. I’m running T-mobile but my clients run everything.

Seriously, I HATE Comcast, but I also hate wasting money. Our bill last month was $72, and that included the cost of two phones. $12 per gig. Our highest bill thus far has been $96. Verizon’s prices would have put us around $200/month with the same phones. Only kicker is that you have to have an Xfinity high speed internet plan, which we need for my wife’s jobs, anyways.
Depends on where you plan to use it.
We had Verizon for about ten years and it worked great in the metro and Red Lake area. Sucked on Vermilion and south side of Mille Lacs. Sucked in Morristown.
Those where the places we use the phones the most.
Switched to AT&T two years ago. It’s cheaper and works better where we use it. Have no problems in any of those places. Have 3 phones, 20G of data, can run mobile hot spots, unlimited text and minutes for about $210 a month, including the payments for the three phones each month.
Maybe VZ has improved over the last couple years. I don’t know and don’t care because AT&T works great for us and costs less.
My opinion is that you figure out where you plan to use the phone and pick the carrier that works there. No sense paying for a carrier and not having service.
I had Verizon for longer than I can remember. Always worked fine but the cost was getting high. Went to consumer cellular and got a plan for $43 with unlimited minutes and text and 1000mb data and 2 lines. Switched 2 months ago and so far ok. Will see how coverage works when ice fishing starts.

Be very careful with your expectations if you get unlimited data plans. ALL carriers automatically cut your data speed after a determined amount of use per month. For some, this may not matter. If your a heavy data user, it sucks. Just be aware of what your actually agreeing to
I just switched to Verizon from Sprint. And I went from having 0 service at home to 2-3 bars of LTE service.
I am also saving a bunch, since we live in a rural area we also had crappy internet service so we switched out to an unlimited plan hotspot.
So I have 3 lines of unlimited talk, text, data, and a home line. Plus an unlimited hotspot, and I am paying just over $300. With sprint, my internet provider, and home line I was right around $400 a month with a data limit on my home internet.
