Cedar River Walleye Report

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to get some insight on the Cedar. I know that it has been up and down a lot lately. I had some time yesterday (9/30/18) to get out near Waverly. Ended up with 10 eyes, smallest being 18″ and a bonus 26.5″. These cooler temps and cold rain have brought the water temp down from 73 to 63 in the past week. It has really sparked the Walleye and Smallmouth bite here on the northern half of the Cedar. I am just curious as to how it has been for others? I would really like to try some other pools of the Cedar soon. Amazingly even with all of this rain, the river continues to drop here in Waverly. The Shell Rock continues to be unfishable, as it has a majority of the summer.

Any other reports on the Cedar would be great!

Surprised fishing that good with the high water. Water down my way too high to even consider fishing.

    Hi Steve,

I guess I am fortunate to have a pool on the Cedar that recedes quickly.

I am hoping to get out once again tonight, the water has barely come up since my last outing on Sunday, despite all the rainfall. I am sure that the water clarity will not be as good, a few days ago I had nearly 10-12″ of visibility. White was the color.

Can’t even get to a boat ramp here. The ramps are in the parks and the parks are closed.

You are lucky. I get up there from time to time. I put in there in town or is there a better place? When you say white, are you talking jigs or cranks?
    Good luck to you!!

I have been wanting to get down to Island Park or Washington access, but anything south of Janesville is unfishable because of the Shell Rock flowing into it.

    Hi Steve,

In town by Nestle is the only place to put in if you are wanting to fish above the dam. There is another ramp in town located by the old green bridge if you are wanting to fish below the dam. However, that is a very tricky stretch because there is so many submersed logs and rock piles. Janesville to Waverly can be a great stretch, but I have always fished above the dam in Waverly because it is so much more accessible by boat, and the fish are a lot easier to pattern and find.

Here is a pic. I was referring to a white plastic.

Years ago we used to wade some of that stretch below the dam when water was low.
Lots of small sm bass, some good ones, some northern and a few walleye.
    Ton of fun!!!
