Carter brothers top cats tournament

The team of Larry Carter, Sioux City, and Mike Carter, Hinton, Iowa, took top honors in the US-CATS Iowa District II tournament last weekend in Sioux City.
The brothers weighed eight fish totaling 37.6 pounds for the win and also captured big fish honors with a 8-pound flathead catfish.
They took home $1,085 for the win and $225 for the big fish.
Taking second place was Pat and his son Travis Carter, 15, Jefferson, S.D., with 10 fish weighing 35.8 pounds. Their biggest fish was a 7.80 channel catfish. They won $770 and were awarded the second biggest fish pot of $125.
In third place was Darrell and son Matt Carter , 17, of Elk Point, S.D. with 10 fish weighing 29.6 pounds. Their largest fish was a 5.80 pound catfish. They won $525.
In fourth place was Gerald Heibel, Sioux City, and Brandon Christiansen, McCook Lake, with 10 fish weighing 22.40 pounds. They won $245.
In fifth place was Clayton Huff of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Brian Huff of Vermillion, S.D., with eight fish for a total of 12.4 pounds. They won $175.
The third big fish winner was Terry Matheny of Sioux City with a 7 pound channel cat. The catch won a landing net.
Fourth big fish winner was Jerry and Dick Limoges, Sioux City, with a 7 pound channel cat. They won a rod and reel.
Merchandise prices were awarded for sixth through 22 place.
A total of 36 teams were entered in the tournament. They caught 79 channel catfish and 17 flatheads for a total of 235.10 pounds for an average of 2.49 pounds.
Anglers left the Sioux City Municipal Boat Ramp and 7 a.m., July 22, and returned for the weighin and barbecue, donated by Boss Hog Barbecue, at 5 p.m. on the riverfront.
This was the third year for the Sioux City event which is the largest US-CATS tournament in Iowa. Last year 32 teams brought in 190.8 pounds of fish and the first year 16 teams caught 142.3 pounds.
The Carter brothers have dominated the tournament each year. Darrell won the first event, Pat won last year and Larry and Mike won this year. Larry placed second both times in the two previous events.
