I was talking to Darren today via PM and we had a discussion about all the controversy concerning questionable KOTC submissions. He sent me a PM that I can share with you on IDO to bring you up to date on the King of the Cats Contest. I don’t know about the rest of you but I have a blast participating in the King of the Cats contest (this year I’m going to hammer Whiskerkev). It is one of the first sites I check most every morning to see who has moved up on the Leaderboard. Anyway, this is the latest info from Darren:
I apologize for not being able to respond directly so it will have to be by proxy. This contest inherently will always have a loophole or two to take advantage of. In the beginning as we started out it was mostly close friends and acquaintances. It was easy to take care of any objections or discrepancies. This is no longer the case as the popularity has grown. The popularity is not bad or good, just is what it is. My personal opinion is the more the merrier and I love to see new folks getting involved. It is all about having fun. Personally, I enjoy the competition with myself and my close friends. Trying to leap frog them and beating my previous bests is what I shoot for (kind of like SteveD and Whiskerkev going at it all year here last year).
We all know that competition can be good and it can be bad. In this case it wasn’t one bad apple, but a slow progression of questionable entries. This new rule only applies to channel cats over 30 inches and Flatheads over 45 inches in length only. There will still be opportunities to take advantage of the format and it could have been changed quite a while ago, but rash decisions sometimes can make for rash consequences. I have mulled this over a long time and felt it was in best interest for the contest at this time. Who knows, years down the road it might be required to purchase an official standard measuring device, or by then it could even be a short video clip of you measuring the fish or something off the wall like that. Never quite know where technology will take us, but I intend to embrace it however I can.
Thanks to those of you that are participating and helping make it a fun time and for those considering it, give it a try you might have some fun with it. I am currently in the process of adding some more nice prizes to great stuff already there and remember, best of all it’s free.
Also I wanted to mention that I plan on doing a invitational money contest on P2 this year in June. Invites have been sent out and the minimum available slots are filling up, but if anyone reading this is interested, shoot me an email via the KOTC site and I’ll see what I can do.
