For all of those that are doing the Rainy river for sturgeon, do not forget the items needed in the boat.

Life preservers, throwable device, horn or whistle, fire ext.

It goes without saying but make sure you have your license along.

Remember to stay on the Mn side of the river as they boys up there do check and they do write tickets that could get costly.

One mistake and the trip could be ruined.

    Then, have fun.

For the last couple years the State Hiway Patrol has been watching the 70ish mile stretch of road up to Baudette. Don’t be speeding on Sunday or you might get to meet one of MN’s finest.

I’m not sure if they were giving out written warnings or just verbals for trailer license stickers being on the wrong side of the trailer tongue. They should be on your vehicles drivers side. I don’t believe anyone was actually ticketed for this….that I heard of anyway.

    Check your boat registration!

Yes BK, one has a tendency to let her buck on that stretch.

BK…that happened to me about 7 years ago heading up to Rainy River for the walleye run, just before Baudette a Trooper was sitting, when pulled over his biggest concern was alcohol. I was let off on a speed warning, but I could sense he was looking for guys starting the fishing trip early with a roadie.

The days of bar hopping to your fishing destination are over….same with an open bar while driving up there. Might be able to get by with it once or even a couple times. But it sure does get expensive when your luck runs out…I hear.

Much safer for others and your party to enjoy the atmosphere at a resort bar than screwing up other peoples lives by drinking and driving.

Thanks for bringing that up Cal.

Yes BK, there were some trips we made that we were very lucky we did not have issues.

The good ol days I guess.
