Have any of you out there ever used the spring morel season as a guide to getting your flathead gear wet? I know last year this was not the case as I found morels way before the water temp rose, and the rivers where still super flooded.

What do you guys think, a guy I grew up with used to swear by this. Either way I cant wait to cut some morels of the ground and dip a lively bullhead in the muddy river!

I have picked morels for years and also chase Mr flathead every season.

I have never tracked the dates but I would think it has to be close for the 2.

The Morels typically are poping about the time that the Lilac bushes are blooming and that seems to be maybe a week ot two early for the flatheads.

Both will be here soon and man I cannot wait for those tasty morels and the big fight of Mr flathead.

That’s a new one for me.

I’ve heard when the lilacs bloom.

When the crawlers first come out.

    When the robins arrive.

When there are basket balls floating down stream.

The best gauge I’ve found so far is the digital thermometer on my Lowrance.

With the snow on the ground, it sure seems like a long ways out!

I noticed that my Bird has a morel alarm to let me know when they are popping.

    Gotta get one BK.
