Dude! Missed 3 fish!?!? Sounds like amateur hour down at Mill!
Just kiddin’. If it was me down there I probably would have only missed 1… And it would have been a 12″ fish… Probably a sheephead.
I am out of practice.
That first one messed my game up for the rest of the day. I didn’t tighten down on the fish.
The second one hit hard and ran, unfortunately because of the first fish I had the bait runner on real light. That one probably would have hooked himself.
The rest I was gun shy on I think. I had a few more taps, but they were a couple pecks and then nothing.
I don’t feel bad, Phil (Mr Special) was down there with a group and he said they missed 3 or 4 fish to everyone they caught.
I know you were kidding, I was replaying the day in my head. Jarrett was up there with me and he caught one about 20 minutes in on his first try, so I did see a fish.
I also caught a couple sunfish, so I did get to catch something.
Report? Just PM me if the bite was hot and reply to this post that they have lock jaw.
Ah, and so it begins. I checked my old log and I confirmed that my technique was off on Saturday. Lesson learned, remember the 3 Ps. Prepare, prepare, prepare.
That second picture was sure purty! Where was it taken at?
BTW was the first picture the wound or the salt rubbed into the wound?

Did you just think it was pretty because of the white pole? I actually got a white reel to match now just for you!
Yeah I pulled in 3 fish that morning and Jeff pulled in 1… biggest of the day was about 4#, didn’t measure them. Here’s the smallest of the bunch, caught about 25 minutes after the first cast.
The 4#-er had a whole bunch of warts and bumps, and only had 1 eye…
And they were hitting really soft… a bit of a jerk on the line pretty much guaranteed that they’d taken the bait. They were really preferring shiner I’d had in the freezer all winter, but they would take cut sucker too. They weren’t interested in sucker heads at _all_ though.
What a start to a season!

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong here… It’s illegal to catch gills on the river to use as bait right? I’ve noticed it being done a few times over the years and was under the impression that it was against the regs. I looked it up at one point but can’t remember now. I could have sworn it said no bluegills for bait period anywhere in MN.
back to catfishing school for you son…

Great info Larry….
The Minnesota fishing regulations reads the following on page 11:
“Using whole or parts of game fish, goldfish, or carp for bait is unlawful.”
Sorry guys… I was in a rush out the door… plus I misread part of the post… Over the years lots of us have seen stuff that makes us scratch our heads…
Being bait is probably one of the top discussion items on the forums… we want to make sure that were going by the books.
as stated above. Thanks Jakob.
Nice meeting you for the first time last night Ryan. I suppose once I left they started snapping again?
As for the sunfish, I think I know why you are asking. PM sent.
I think we got maybe three or four after you left – all small guys..
Quite the popular place these days, nice to meet you Jakob Next time I’ll try to meet the rest of you characters

Correction. 6 total…
Ryan, now you are starting to sound like the other guy that was down there. LOL
Next time I think I might try my spot downstream I was talking about. Water is at about the right height. maybe hit it Sunday afternoon.

Lots of people were coming through in the afternoon also… Very busy this year. Was that your tri-pod rod holder I saw down there? If so that’s a great idea!
works pretty well for attracting attention, fish don’t seem to be impressed though
Saturday no worky. I got some plans…or should I say my GF made plans for me?
My buddy did some amazing photo work down at Mill Ruins – hope you guys like!
That’s awesome! It makes it look like it is part of a model train and the pictures taken in macro mode. Very cool.
The second to the last guy…without a fish…looks like you Pug.
Just saying.

Yeah it was taken with a tilt/shift lens… they’re pretty cool and can get you some really freaky effects. They’re mostly an art lens and crazy expensive. They make everything look like it’s part of a model train set or made out of legos.
They’re cool, I wish I could get one…

You don’t need a fancy camera/lens to get the same affect. Anybody with Photoshop can do them also.
Open this link AFTER work
I made the pictures shown here with the tutorial. They look so much better when they are not shrunk down. The 1st is of the p4 dam that I took on a trip a while back with “Stinky B”. The second was a shot on Florida of one of my kids. The third is the boys playing hockey in the backyard.
When you get the sequence of things you need to do in PS, it goes really fast, now, let’s see some that you guys create!

I have a feeling Pug is pounding the channels, he’s probably just keeping it to himself.
Like a hammer!
The guys who saw me catch it said it was a catfish. I didn’t correct them because it made me feel better.
