I am really bad at guessing, but I will say it won’t start breaking up until Sunday-ish.

I shot down there last week as well, itch got me!

I agree with pug – I would think by Sunday it should start to break apart.

I did get a line wet that night (not at mill) for 3 hours, no bites.

I see the edge is cracking. When I was down there a couple weeks ago it looked like it would take forever to melt.

Is it still to iced up to fish?

I’ve been unsuccessful in the other spots I’ve tried. I’ve got the itch bad to reel in mister whiskers.

    Tight lines!!!

So I should bring my gear into work tomorrow. I probably won’t but, I can run down there at noon-ish and give an update. Looks like if it ain’t tomorrow, it might take a week before I will fish it with the colder temps coming.

Tcat, about the time you were posting yesterday, I heard a few guys were down there giving it a shot. Sounds like they didn’t catch anything but I admire their charactor to go out and do it. Except for the next few days and that wind tonight and tomorrow, I would say spring has sprung…..

Could be hard to navigate the ice chunks for a while once they break up more. It was open in front of the discharge (canal) nearest the lock. Then the ice started in between that one and the other canal.

    Distant shot

    End canal

    Canal nearest to the lock

The catfishing stunk, but we got into some crappies and panfish. I am the dude with the cool hat on the left.

No, we never made it up to Knife this year. That was Cross lake. I hoped we catch an accidental channel or sturgeon, but it wasn’t to be.

Stopped by today. It looks kind of the same as the pictures I took before, except the ice in front of where we fish is now dark. It is still thicker and white down the lock more to where it hits the main river. Should be open enough to fish by Saturday, but I suspect it will still be blocked further down. That mean ice break off and junk will be floating around and make fishing hard.

Yes, tell us when you finally catch one.

These are todays photos. Most the dark areas are ice, not open water.

It’ll be interesting to see how the bite is this year being it is a late ice out.

Don’t even bother going down there for 2 weeks. I went to check it out and there were barricades blocking the drive down the hill.

I asked a guy in a one ton what was going on and they said they are starting to doing some some cleaning of debris off the bottom and dredging the channel a little deeper before opening the lock. It is going to take at least a week he said. I noticed the big crane/backhoe looking thing down there when I turned around and left.

    This sucks.
