Nice Pics, but I would never harvest a sturgeon.

I’m guessing they got alot of sturgeon! I myself was wondering how the bay and delta made out with the recent wave deal…

White Sturgeon are pretty cool. These are the ones that legends are made from because they can become “over sized”.

It’s funny, because when a person starts talking large sturgeon (over 7 feet and CPR) out that way, people will tell you to leave them alone and fish for the smaller fish (like above).

They feel the energy spent hurts the larger ones and they would be too tired to spawn or even dump their eggs.

Great photos and catch. I sure hope to get out that way too someday.

I sat along side of a tidal pool in Oregon and watched huge sturgeon breeching just 100 yards away. By huge I mean like eight plus feet. Those suckers are monsters.

Some locals were there watching them as well and they said they get larger than what was in front of us. I’ll bet that the hookset and subsequent first run would be a heart stopper.

Believe it or not, that’s a small one for out there…what some would call an “eater”. Funny how their spines don’t dull down like ours do here when they get that big.

Under the Jewish law of Kashrut, eating fish without scales is verboten. According to Wiki, sturgeon have bony plates called Scutes and lack a vertbral central, the knob on the top fo the backbone, which allows them to twist easily in both directions. Wiki also says they feed in the Benthic Layer, which is also true for a lot of folks elected this year.

    A Realtor Ron story.

He was on leave while in the service..rented a boat and tackle from a bait shop. They told him to go fish in an area that was in sight of the bait shop and what ever you do, don’t let go of the rod.

Well, he got tired of holding it and set it down next to him. Yep, lost the rod. He motored back to the bait shop for another rod.

This time they told him to go into a bay, and look for the sunken telephone poles and fish as close to them as he could. He never caught a sturgeon, but the telephone poles swam away.
