Well, we officially went over the 100 fish entered mark today. That’s a pretty good start!
Some very nice channels have been entered so far and a finally starting to see a smattering of flatheads coming in too.
Don’t forget, you need to have 2 fish total entered to qualify for May’s drawing, and congrats to Ryan A for winning the Ming Yang Baitcasting reel. I actually added a few more new prizes the other day so be sure to check that out.
Special Thanks to Bobbymalone!
As always, all the details are updated regularly on the King of the Cats website.
Don’t feel bad Dfresh, its been one of those springs, a whole lot diffrent then last year this time, but it will warm up eventually.
Got 5 channels last night, but all fiddlers. Nothing to submit to the contest, but sure felt good to catch a few!
The biggest MN river channel I’ve ever seen was entered last night. What a hog!
Wow, what a blob! I know I say it all the time, but I love how the head gets mutated on the big fish. It makes them look a little meaner.

SteveD’s from the St. Croix last season looks bigger than that fish to me. I know your talking about the Minnesota river here, just sayin you may want to have that guy check his tape measure.
Well Steve’s looks bigger because it WAS bigger.
Half an inch if I remember right.
Both are awesome fish and something I sure would like to catch some day!
Looking at a couple size charts and both seem to put that length/girth channel north of 20lbs. Fish of a lifetime out of the MN for sure.
Ya its a nice channel, thats a nice one down here too. I’d bet it will go 20 plus.
I don’t see this years control item in that photo. Is that a big deal?

It’s on his hat.
Managed my first St Croix flathead (31″X22″) for the year on Saturday, 4 June plus a nice channel cat upgrade (32″ X 20″). I’ve managed to gain a 5th place spot in the Green on the Channel Cat Leaderboard but that won’t last long. I need a couple of bigger channel cats and then I can start chasing flats full time. St Croix is below 683′ pool elevation so the No Wake restrictions are off. The water temp last night was 69 degrees and there was a lot of bait activity in my high water fishing spots. Time to go cat fishing!!
Nice work Steve! The bite is picking up! When are you ready for me to shoot down?
The BIG Flatties are coming out to play!!
Pics can be found in the Gallery
Marc, you just breezing through or are you going to stick around. Haven’t seen you post for quite sometime. How are you doing?
yeah been out of posting for a while….
mostly been fishing. haahha!!
ive been gone so long i forgot how to post pictures

226 fish entered so far! Lots of big ones too.
I’m giving away some great prizes this month including a Catfish Safari rod, a Ming Yang reel, a Frabil landing net, a Thermocell unit, and a bunch of Wildlife energy drinks!
All it takes is 3 entered fish.
All the details can be found on the site provided in my original post.
looks like WhiskerKev has taken a substantial lead on the Channel Cat Leaderboard. Kevin is sitting in second place with 155.5 points. Those Mendota channels are some nice fish, Kev. That 155.5 points is going to be tough to catch up to. I think you may give those Red River guys some stiff competition Kev.
The contest keeps rolling along! Congrats to the recent prize winners and I’ve added the details for the next drawing. So far 282 total fish have been entered with 22 Channels over 30″ and 21 Flats over 40″.
Thanks for all the participation!

I had two break offs last weekend. I think either of them would have put me over but that is how the ball bounces. Both of them broke 30lb big cat mono. I did catch a chunky 27 on fiber and sonny’s combo.
St Croix finally gave up a nice flathead. This was a 44″ X 32″ flathead for 76 points which was a good King of the Cats Contest upgrade for me. This gives me 199 points and a 5th Place in the Green. This score won’t hold me in the GREEN for long but it was a pretty fish that jumped me well up the board. Looks like the spawn is drawing to a close on the St Croix and the flats are hungry again. I also got a nice 34″ X 21″ flathead that wasn’t an upgrade fish but a nice fish nonetheless. I caught two tonight and missed two good runs – I’m after them now while the bite is on.
You using bullies, suckers or cutbait Steve? I am sure my nephew will be calling me soon, as he must be close to recovered from being up north.
Well, we are in the final month now and I recently did a drawing and gave away a bunch of great prizes! Congrats to all the winners and thanks to those that donated.
Now all that’s left is bragging rights to the 10 King of the Cats and a nice prize to 1 lucky “King” of each specie.
YTD we are at 402 fish entered
29 Channel cats over 32″ (about 15lbs) with the biggest at 36×23.5
27 Flathead cats over 40″ (about 30lbs) with the biggest at 49×31.5
Good Luck to everyone in our final month and as always, more detailed updates can be found at http://www.kingofthecats.org
