…I would never have guessed but the maker of Secret 7 was telling me that stink is a very good winter/cold weather bait. Some people put the container in a cooler to keep it warm while outdoors.

I have never caught a catfish on stinkbait in the now 4 years I’ve been targeting them. I’ve tried it on the ‘Croix, on the upper Miss on pool 1, pool 2, and pool 4. And nary a bite, nary even a nibble.

I wonder what I’m doing wrong? I mean… it’s not like it’s hard to do or difficult to figure out. It just doesn’t work for me.

Used Sonny’s for the first time when staying at Evert’s last year after Dean suggested it. We cleaned up on channel cats the rest of the trip.

I have the easy answer. There were no channels in the area.

With a stink bait like Sonny’s, Secret Seven or a Fiber Bait like Sudden Impact, if there isn’t a least a nibble in 10 minutes…move.

I was a non believer at one time too.

When fishing on a river, make sure you don’t close your bail until it hits the bottom. The running water can wash them off pretty good. Place your baits as close to a down tree as you can. Fish will come out of them and follow the scent up river. I find some prepared baits work better than others. Long time Sonny’s blood user here. I get them by the pail at catfish connection. I find the non blood bait doesn’t work that well here. Look for trees with some current on them and 10 plus feet of water around them and you’ll find some takers.

Jared, if you get the chance to fish Mill Ruins on a warm afternoon or a warm night, say over 50 degrees, try it again.

OK cool I’ll try that. So… is that MR, or “the MR area”?

Aye us Miss CF guys gotta stick together… whether we’re fishing MR or HYH, P3 or P4… FS or FAB (that’s “from shore” and “from a boat”).

I can’t tell you more… I’ve said too much already. They’re after me, you know.

Hey you stay out of my marsh.. I know you aren’t wearing a glove are you? Most of us on the catboard think wearing gloves to handle catfish must be accompanied with lace panties and heels. Nice Work Chris, what did you get them on?

    Kev,

Cut sucker. Tried crawlers and stink bait but no action on either. I thought I saw a boat like yours but the motor didn’t look quite right so I didn’t want to crowd them to say hi. Have you been out yet?

If the weather cooperates I am going to take my twin girls out this weekend and see if we can get a couple more to cooperate.

Yep that is a glove. I have a bunch of stitches in my hand so that explains the sissy gear. One of us didn’t get the net in the boat so we were grabbing them by hand.

Size 15 pumps are hard to find, even in Madison

I was out last Thursday for the first time. You are a quick study. Throw several things at them and go with what works. If the freaking rain would stop the bite will go nuts.

No big ones last night. My son and I took my twin girls out. One of the girls has never caught a channel cat and the sibling rivalry is strong in those two. Four hours of running around but finally found a hot spot. She can cross keeping up with sis on Cats off the list. Biggest one was 11 pounds. Mission accomplished both girls caught a couple. We boated 9 wiffed on 4 or 5 more. Had one break 15 pound power pro, must have been nicked or something.

Well, she’s not as bad as she used to be with the hand sanitizer, but she still won’t let me wash our spoons after they’ve been in stink bait. Heck, I think I’d eat off of them without washing them.

Didn’t you check on this before you asked her to marry you?

It’s going to be very hard to break her of that now.

Just do what I do with cutbait knives. “Honey, I’ll start the dishwasher”. I slip them in and she is none the wiser.

Get the scales off first though. Trust me on this one. She will not appreciate seeing one sitting next to her steak on the plate.

I noticed some chub scales on my phone yesterday. Left them there.
