hot water cats

    I found a hot water discharge and decided to throw a hammered gold spinner rig with a couple fatheads. About 30 seconds after the first cast hit the water a roughly 24″ channel hit. After I got that one in, I landed a couple 15lb range carp and one more 26′ channel. By then I was a bit on the wet and numb side so I called it a day.

    26’er must have been a beaut… I Don’t think I’ve ever seen one that big. Nice fish.

    I have to admit I was pretty revved up the rest of the day. Especially since I really didn’t expect to catch anything. I did see a couple cats swim by that were as big around as my leg and over 30″ long. They spooked pretty easy though. Too bad I don’t have a buffet chafing dish to keep the stink bait warm.

    We didn’t manage any more cats the second try, but we saw a couple 20 lb+ swim by. Did manage a few carp and a river carp sucker though.

    “JUST” carp?

    You felt the tug right?

    Jesse and I were on a huge school of 3 (poundish) channels today. Not a rod in the boat.

    <sigh>

    I stopped down there again for a bit Sunday, but there were 3 kids bow fishing and they had the water pretty churned up and the fish were pretty spooky. I still managed to land a nice little river carpsucker. I knew as soon as we made tracks in the snow someone would be down there. I just hope it doesn’t get fished out before spring!

    Kind of like every spring when I target and fish for just carp.

    We are getting closer every day!
