Team Catfish line

Thinking about investing in a large spool of braid to set up some new reels, and the Team Catfish stuff seems to be the most economical way to go for a 1200 yard spool.

Anyone use the Team Catfish stuff? How does it compare to PP?

Any other suggestions for a big spool of braid? Would be looking for 50lb or higher.

    Thanks!

Jeff was going to send a sample to me to check it out, but I think he forgot…and I haven’t reminded him.

I’m very pleased with Cortland’s MasterBraid in 80 pound test after the first year of running it. It’s comparable to the price of PP.

No, I’m not sponsored by them.

a good friend/fishing buddy of mine uses the team cat line and swares by it,we hauled in a chunk of concrete and rebar probably in the 30-40 lb range out of the river this past summer, line was wrapped round the rebar little on the frayed side but it held.Myself not impressed with the hooks either.Yellow sinker bumpers AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Meh, after researching more, the price difference per yard of PP and Team catfish is negligible. Not enough for me to switch anyway.

The 50lb Spiderwire braid is a bit cheaper though. Anyone ever try that?

The rubber sinker stoppers they make are excellent though!

I love those things and I am not even paranoid about the sinkers banging on the knot.

Just that you’ll need to use a palomar knot as a uni or trilene knots will slip. Speaking from experience.

Not that there’s anything wrong with saving a few bucks but…isn’t knowing the line between you and the fish is quality and that you have confidence in it?

To me skimping on the cost of sinkers, bumpers ect is fine but there’s certain essentials that lower price might not be the best way to go.

Just thought for food…er…something like that.

Yeah yeah Brian! I have been telling myself the same thing. Why cheap out when you could have the fish of a lifetime on the end of the line. Guess I bite the bullet and buy the PP like every other year

Not that I’m anti PP, but just for s&g’s give Suffix and MasterBraid a try. Same price.

If you don’t like the MasterBraid, I have some 80 PP you can have to replace it. As far as the Suffix goes…your on your own.

On the subject of discount line, I got some Chinese off brand braid from ebay for around $6 for 200 yds. I figured worse case I could use it on my sucker rod. I tested it on a digital scale and it snapped at 12 lbs when it was labeled as 20 lb. I called the guy on it and he refunded me $3.50. Lesson learned, stick with the good stuff.

I’ve been using hi vis Power Pro for a long time. It hasn’t given me a reason to switch. The only thing I don’t like about it is when you use a bobber like the new night bright from Thill (that has a metal bead on the top), Get rid of that bead. They cut through braid just riding around in the boat when the bobber bounces up and down on the line. I can’t ever remember being broken off by a fish using PP. I’m sure the master braid and the Courtland are good too. They’ve been around a few years and I haven’t seen any mud thrown at them. I use Palomar knots for everything. I can tie that chit in the dark without a light.

I’m sure some of their merchandise is fine stuff but it’s just stuff they buy and stick their name on as far as I know. Don’t the hooks look like daiichi? No clue about the line though.

I’ve used all kinds of random cheap brands of braid. Buy the 80# and you can’t really tell them apart. Buy the 50 and you’ll be shopping soon. The last one I got was spiderwire ultra cast? It is fine.

its what i had on my reel last year and i pulled up a 12 ft long tree literally a big soggy log out of a 30 ft hole in the st croix in main current on a boat and she didnt break.

i was sure tired though, i really wanted that sinker back because it was the last 4 oz no roll i had with that day
