Got a last minute sturgeon run in last night. Stcroixer was able to join me and after a couple of goofs on my part:

    1) Hudson ramp being closed
    2) Forgetting the camera
    3) Not having backup headlamp batteries

We actually had very good fishing. There’s a no-wake on the river right now so putting in at Afton dictated where we could fish. We went right to spot we marked earlier in the month and put out the lines. Started right about 7 pm.

I was using cut sucker and stcroixer had shad. The shad produced all of our big fish.

Ended the night with 8 in the boat and 1 getting off due to knot failure.

Shad we had – 30″, 52″, 55.5″, and the last fish of the night, 60″!!!

    Suckers boated 35″, 36″, 41″, and 43″ fish.

Beautiful night to be out, light winds, stars out in full force.

With no digital camera on board, we got these two pics off cell phone. 1st is 43″ which at time was my PB, but I shattered that with the last one, 60″ (2nd photo), that I had trouble holding!

These fish were all great fighters. You can see in the first photo that I’m all wet, this is from the fish jumping so close to the boat that I got splashed twice. Scared the bejesus out of my dog the first time.!!! Even the 60″ went airborne for us. Ended the night about 10:45.

Thanks again Jarrett for the great night of fishing and for letting me use that shad!!!

Bummer on the camera for the PB…I could have been on the dock in 5 minutes with mine…although I don’t know how close you were fishing to it.

I had the phone in my hand to call you for the night…but just finishing up with a cold might not have been the wisest idea…besides, St Croixer and I don’t get along well in a boat.

This should be the last year that WI closes it’s season after 4 weeks. Rumor has it that they might actually follow the MN law and go with two weeks of catch and release next year.

    Great Job Eric and Jarrett!

What a fun night, thanks again.

We had a double that was fun, we met a nice gentleman in a 4′ dingy who tangles us up for a while (took 2 pics the 2ND time he did it but I guess 5 feet away was asking too much from the Droid at night), but the battle with your 60″ was classic sturgeon antics, 3 times under the anchor rope with the entire pole and you kept her out of the anchor Lucy will never be the same.

Photos of fish in the dark? Droid does…..kind of.

Looks like a lot of fun. Jarrett, is that the spot? Same one I pulled my little one out of that one time? Remember band camp?

People are going to start asking me what I think that fish weighed. Is there a formula?

We had 60″ long with a 24.5″ girth at thickest point.

Nice PB! That must have been a blast.

Everyone keeps talking about using shad. Where/how do you get shad to use for bait?

You’ll probably need a crowbar to pry that answer out of someone. IM sent.
