Has everyone given up on cats for the year? I understand that sturgeon season has taken over, but come on! Still catfish to catch!

On that note, anyone still chasing whiskers out there? Any luck?

Done? Almost! Work, school, commuting, & preparing for duck season all occupy about 24hrs/day lately! Fishing has been minimal, and its quite depressing.

still got about 20 bullies in my tank that I feed every few days. I think I need to soak em one last time before I make the big leap to hunting season.

God I hope not. The last two months I haven’t gotten out much at all. I think I may fish some small live suckers though this weekend for at the least a little bit. So I don’t care if a cat, smallie, pike, whatever takes it.

We went out last weekend on the MN and had a few bites, but no fish. Got some big suckers killed by turtles though.

We’re thinking of trying again this weekend, though. The water is still really high for this time of year. Been a pretty strange season for sure.

The channel bite for us the past 2 weeks has been remarkably good. Stink bait has been the go-to….even for big fish.

    “remarkable”

Understatement! I’ve have very limited net access the last few days.

The pool 4 channel cat bite is cooking hot…and yes, Sonny’s Stink bait. I stopped down to the dock Tuesday evening to see 15 fish, caught by two anglers. Not one fish was under 5 pounds. Most were in the 7 pound area.

Locations? Any place there’s some wood in the water South of Everts. You’ll need to move as a few fish are being picked up at each location before it drys up.

Done? Heavens no! Looking forward to this weekends fishing? ‘ell YES!

Oh yeah, I still got some stinkbait left too. So small suckers, crawlers and stink bait. I am bound to catch something in a couple hours with one of those, if that is all the time I get this weekend. Just wish I could use 2 lines.

Well…I hate to overstate for obvious reasons. It does seem much later than normal for stink bait to be dominant, especially over cut bait.

Yeah, we’ve been noticing this on the MN as well. Seems like we’ll have to bring a variety of baits out tomorrow. Let you guys know how we do.

Considering if I go my time will be limited, I don’t mind using stinkbait for smaller channels. Heck, I’ll be happy to catch a sheephead.

If I go, it is to a spot I have caught many other gamefish, notably walleye and smallmouth, that’s why I’ll have crawlers and suckers along too.

When we were down at Evert’s in August, the big ones didn’t discriminate against the stink!

Just saying if the stinkbait is working just for little channels, I’ll be happy. Now if a 10# wants to bite it, I’ll still count it.

I think I left my stinkbait in our boat… If we don’t get out again, it will be a pleasant surprise next spring.

Stink bait left outside over winter is my normal storage spot.

Just have to keep an eye on River Rat Randy.

Most stinks are good for 5 to 7 years and keeping it cold prolongs it’s life. In the spring, just stir it up a bit. Some brands might need to be warmed first…depending on the size, 30 to 45 seconds in the microwave will do the trick…as long as the FW isn’t home.

Well, we managed only one 3-4 pound channel yesterday on the MN. River is really high and out of it’s banks in some spots. This is September?!

Can you imagine these levels up to the freeze and then another winter like the last. We might all be fishing in our basements.

That would require a lot of febreeze, nasty! I think I’d rather just send Mike outside with a blow dryer. Haha, jus kiddin.

This is kind of nutty water conditions this year. The bite was really off this weekend. We ran crawlers, cut bait, stink bait, live bullheads, suckers and chubs. All we managed was one frying size channel and a pig of a carp.

We fished pool 4 from wednesday to friday. I wanted to target the eyes but they did not cooperate so we switch to cats. I hate to admit it but it was awesome. We caught a bunch of channels and I caught my first flat head. It was 9 pounds. What a fight. My buddy also got a few sturgeon. I will make a report once we get a chance to go over all the pictures and remove the ones that the wives can’t see.

You haven’t told the wives about each other yet?

Looking forward to the report and pictures, because I am still living (*can’t think of the word*) through everyone. Didn’t get out this weekend. And next weekend I have to help the mother-in-law move.

At some point I am going to have to just say “F” it and go. Either that or look for me in the news.

    “vicariously”

And I’ll be watching page 7 of the D section.

I’ll have a report up tonight. Channels, Flats and Sturgeon.

Considering the starter drive when out on my motor Friday we had a very “enjoyable” weekend. It helps when people don’t know the snaugers are starting on P4. Not a boat out there last night!

I’m hopefully going to have my ‘toon on P4 for sturgies and channels next weekend. I’m not sure, (and if so I’ll post in the other forum) but I may have an open seat. If so, it’ll be first-come-first-serve.

But I definitely have to get the boat out a few more times before the season’s over. I just added a gear locker and 5 rod holders, for cryin out loud! Damn, I’m glad to be home and charging back into catfish fever!

The rivers being up, you’d think shore fishing would get better as I would think all fish get pressed close to shore. I am going to have to try my theory (as if I haven’t many times in the past).

Catfish should still be biting fairly good, but this time of year I target everything that swims. Now I just have to decide where.
