Just waking up after a night on the St. Croix. We started the afternoon out of Hastings and headed north, first dropped anchor north of Prescott, from there we kept moving north never staying in on spot more than an hour. The first fish of the day was a really nice 5 lbs Channel cat, followed by another 2 or 3 pounder. We finally found one of the sturgeon we were after as night fell, a 34″. The only other sturgeon of the night was a really nice 44″ that tipped the scale at 23 lbs. We capped off the night with an incredible 23″ girth flat head cat. It was a great night to be floating down the river. We had to work for the fish we got but we had some good ones. All fish were released.

Nice fish, thanks for the report! It helps at least seeing people catching them when I can’t get out…I think it helps.

    Something’s wrong with those photos!

All my pics from last night have rain soaked jackets in them! LOL!

Nothing wrong with haveing to work a little to stay on a bite. Thanks for sharing!

I called you a couple times on channel 69 but someone said you were down on P4.

We did have rain on and off but my canvas top saw it’s first use as a fishing set up, who knew they could be used for more than just to block the sun on family trips.

Other highlights from the night include:

    losing a $70 digger anchor

and getting checked by a Wisconson ranger, I didn’t know they had rangers this side of Texas.

my face is not pictured here, I just played net man and boat driver all night

And guess who didn’t have a fire extinguisher after they checked you Brian? Nice guy, verbal, apparently I left in on my work bench after cleaning the boat carpets. We didn’t do much more after you left, the cat was the biggest, no sturg. Nice night after all weather wise.

    Ouch!

Losing an anchor has to hurt…and Czech, a verbal? Your stars were aligned!

I guess I won’t complain about my bright little head light not being water proof!

No doubt BK. You can be darn sure it was along for the ride tonight! If I didn’t have to work in the AM, I’d still be out, wow is it nice out there.

    I’m hearing ya!

Our bite was better in the rain than last night…hopefully I’ll have some photos up this week sometime.

That’s why you just don’t clean the carpet

Hah! A true cat guy would say…what carpet?

    and yes, I have carpeting.

If you recall, I had to clean the carpet because I got blood from a bull head robbing walleye on it! I tried to sell the boat but no one wanted it in that condition. Are we OK now?

I know fish-is-fish, but since you caught that fish about 2 miles downstream from where I caught my 40#, and considering the very unique coloring to that one (yellow head, gray-ish body), I am guessing I may have caught that fish once before, in June!

    The flattie, that is.

    Sounds like a great night!
