Here’s my first sturgeon since 2008 on the Croix. Nothing big, just a great morning on the water. Eagles, Canada geese, some ducks, fish hopping out of the water all over the place.

And no boats! We were only boat in Hudson ramp at 5 am. We fished until 8:30 until we saw another boat.

Tried 4 spots, this one came in spot 4, 8:40 am. Quit fishing at 9. Also caught some over reaching sheeps and one 10ish cat.

Who’s the “we” and why didn’t you let them catch anything?

The ‘we’ was St. Croixer!! I should have noted that along with all the other good parts of the day, I had good company!

I think we just ran out of time and had just figured out the right depth when we both had to head in.

We found this fish in 45-50 fow (boat was in 38′ but we were casting out over a drop), cut sucker, 4/0 Team Catfish circle hook, 3 ounce no roll. On 80 lb. power pro and a St. Croix Legend rod.

    Good luck!

Nice looking fish Cougareye. I’ve never fished for Lake Sturgeon but I’m sure they’re a lot of fun to catch.

No question about it. Sturgeon put up a great fight. While this one is not that big, it came fully out of the water right behind the boat, tail dancing on the water. Then just as he hit the water, drove back down with such force I had to give him line so my rod didn’t snap.

Anyone on the fence to fish these things should try it. It’s not difficult fishing and there’s plenty of people on line to help you get started.

I was thinking about this yesterday. How I came to start sturgeon fishing. Attended BK’s seminar at Sp. Warehouse. Bought his recommendations on line and the recommended rods from Dean, picked up the swivels, no rolls, and hooks from Bob at Moore’s, etc. IDO hat in the picture from the St. Croix pre-opener GTG.

That’s the beauty of IDO. So much information and people willing to share it.

Man, so great to get out and have the river to ourselves, what an underrated opener, I’m glad you got that fish before we left. Can’t thank you enough

First of all, what the heck is that? And number two, why is his little finger in the air?

I have to tell Jarrett (StCroixer) wearing Wild apparel while fishing is bad luck. I wear it all the time while fishing.

Now why would you be so offensive and mean spirited?

I suggest you apologize to all the sheephead out there.

Brian likes fly fishing. He also has the keys to the boat.
