I can’t take credit for finding it Puggy, Mr. Stauffer from the Lake City DNR turned me on to it.

One of my customers hooked a 29.5 inch sturgeon last Saturday. It was first tagged in June of 2009 and was measured at 27 inches.

Just another reason to leave the tags in the fish that are returned and send in the info.

Either way, good idea to post it. I think I emailed info on my only tag.

Can use the same link for catfish tags too. Just had a cat reported from the St Croix at the end of August. Make sure to zoom in close enough on the map to place the fish location. The couple of reports I have received had a better verbal description than the coordinates the map gave me, but overall, that link is pretty slick.

And I would guess if people send a tag in on a cat, you would want them to note that in the catfish diary so you can match up the data?

Yes. But if people keeping catfish diaries wanted to bypass the online reporting part, that would be fine. At least as long as I get the diary at the end of the year. Just find it interesting to get the information a little sooner. The online reporting option does give me a chance to promote the Metro Catfish Study if they haven’t already taken the survey and gotten involved with the catfish diary stuff.

Just leave that tag in there if the fish is released. And for catfish, don’t let the presence of a tag sway your decision on whether to harvest or release. Treat it as if it wasn’t tagged, but if you harvest it, please report it so I know that the fish is out of the population and so I can record the location of where it was caught.

Sorry BK, didn’t mean to change the subject of this thread from sturgeon to catfish, but I expect a fair number of cats will be caught while sturgeon fishing. I don’t want to be on your bad side or you’ll come after me with a cast net

As the MNSCA President, he better not mind!

By the way, the zipper inspector PMed me about the wording of my post.

Don’t send the tag in, just write down the numbers and leave the tag in and report the tag number.

You two are on a roll this morning! I suggest decalf.

BTW I’ve found a great use for my cast net. I spread it out and tacked it to the rafters in my basement. Kinda give our family room a “fishing” feel.

Yeah, because carrying a calf around all morning would make it hard for anyone to read OR write… if that’s the issue, I strongly recommend you take 2 veterinarians and call me in the morning.
