Without anything larger than a walleye net, both Mike and I lifted her into the boat.

Out of breath, this video was shot.

Turns out that this wasn’t the first time I’ve held this fish. The tag showed that it was tagged in the Kinnickinnic area of the St Croix, recaptured about a month later. Then a year later, it was caught out of my boat and then caught by our own Ralf Wiggim and lastly caught again in our video.

She’s still down there making babies every 3 to 4 years!

As always, I’m taking a butt load of vacation during the Wisconsin deer season but, I’m done buying Wisconsin deer tags for the gun season. I hope the Wisconsin deer management team chokes on a lot of tags this year!!!

So back to the vacation……I think you will see Mike and I in November

Brings back memories of a great day BK. Now as far as Bret – I think it would be the first deer season that he has missed, EVER ,since he started hunting. But I do believe he is serious so I think you may see us opening day – maybe that big girl can visit us again and give Bret the thrill of a lifetime.

Up on Rainy River and Lake of the Wood, the season is open most of the year except for around the spawn. However much of the time it’s catch and release fishing. We hold the Sturgeon Excursion between the end of the walleye season and the start of the new years walleye season. Check the regs for actual dates.

On Pool 4, there is not a Lake Sturgeon season. There is a Shovelnose Sturgeon season that is continuously open along with cats and walleye/sauger. Walleye guys, catfisherman and Shovelnose fisherman will catch Lake Sturgeon frequently in a number of places along the 44 miles of Pool 4 through out the year. In fact, most evenings a person anchoring near the dam and looking down stream will have an aerial display of Sturgeon and Paddlefish going air born.

Starting Sept 4th this year, the St. Croix River Lake Sturgeon Season opens. With a sturgeon tag, a person can keep one Lake Sturgeon per year that was caught either on LOTW’s or the St Croix if it’s 60 inches or more. Take note that the Sturgeon Tag ($5) is not needed for catch and release fishing. Think of a deer tag and not a trout or duck stamp.

The Croix “keep” season ends Sept 31st. Minnesota anglers have another two weeks of catch and release fishing.

Many of the sturgeon anglers catch Flatheads, Channels, Sheephead and a number of eel while soaking their worms, and cut bait.

It should be noted that the Chippewa River in WI has a very good population of Lake Sturgeon and many large fish have been caught over that way too.
