I get a number of emails asking where a person can go to get cat gear, hooks, sinkers ect in the Metro area.

Of course I’ll let them know that Everts has it all and will ship, but is there anything up that way that handles even most cat guys needs?

    Thorne Bros?

Can find hooks, line, and swivels just about anywhere. Ask for no rolls at Gander and they have no idea what you are talking about.

Anywhere in the TC carry no-rolls?

Didn’t know Vados had them. I’ll have to run over there.

Last year the Gander Mtn. in Woodbury had a pile of 1oz to 4oz no-roll sinkers, however I haven’t looked lately.

It’s hit and miss no roll there, I cleaned out the last two packs of 3’s and 4’s a couple weeks back. You need to check both the cat area and the main lead area, sometimes even the deal bins have them buried. I found 8/0 Gamis here too, but only one pack.

Joes carries a basic selection of cat gear like no rolls and big gamakatzus. And some Team Catfish gear like sinker slides and sinker bumpers.

Also a little chunk of airline tubing works about as well as sinker bumpers. For a lot cheaper too.

There is a guy just off Concord near the 494 ramp who has some tiny shop that has catfish stuff (I think). I can’t remember the name of the shop. MikeW told me about it and I stopped there once to get crawlers. The guy had catfish and musky photos on the wall. He might have some stuff.

Di*k’s bait located on concord exchange just south of the vfw on the the right. He doest have any catfish tackle but he does always have suckers. I get all my suckers from him, he’s very reasonably price. If he doesn’t have the size sucker you want just let him know by tuesday and he will get them by wednesday afternoon or thursday.

P.S. Those catfish pics on his wall are of me and a buddy.

    Take care everyone!

    Hello,

I get some of my tackle from, proanglertackle.com, great deal on 2 and 3 ounce no rolls and circle hooks. I don’t like there circle hooks as much as I like the team catfish hooks but still a awesome deal.

    Take care!

Kevin, if you like those no roll prices…you better get your hinder to Everts!

On top of the price, tell Dean that you would like to use the “Try before you buy” program.

Just left them, they have 5 though 8 anyway and some smaller but didn’t see any 3 or 4 oz ones, if that’s what your looking for, maybe call them to see if they restocked.

Anybody have a 3 through 5 oz mold?

This could turn out like trying to find pistol ammo a ways back..:)

My thought exactly! I bet the hot lead would ‘pool’ in that shape? Now how do you get the hole thru them?

I don’t get why everyone loves no-rolls so much? I get stuck all the time with those things, give me a bank weight any day!

Most all of my cat gear is delivered to my front door from a number of places from ebay to Catfish Connection. It’s too hit or miss to take a chance driving anywhere and come up short. You can even get a good deal on sinkers online, you just need to share the shipping costs

Do-It molds come with about 6 steel pins that are placed in the mold prior to pouring. Once the sinker is dropped out of the mold the pins pulled out to form the hole.

I found that #14 solid electrical wire works just as well when cut to length. I’ll put a touch of wheel bearing grease on the top end of the wire and they pull out like a feather.

I’ve realized that if your fishing a river with a lot of rocks a no-roll will likely get hung up more than say the bank sinkers. For the Croix and Mississippi in the areas I fish, it’s hard to beat the low profile of a no roll.

Not to start the old debate again, but I use both bank and no rolls. I like no rolls because I can walk them down closer to cover. Also, for many areas I find them easier to hop and bounce through a snag(s) and I might lose my bait, but I won’t have to retie.

When I was in there a while back, Thorne Bros was looking to become a catfish mecca too… big rods, heavy line, no-rolls, big circle hooks, etc.

They even have Courtland in weights from 40# thru 120#.

If they’re out of something, chances are they’ll be restocking it.

When you’re in there, please ask the bait shop to start carrying bullheads. I’m hoping to get them to start and all it’ll take is the demand from their customers. They just need to know how many of us there are and that we want it.

Ask about sucker minnows too. The pickings were slim the last time I went. But to the guys credit, he admitted he lost a bunch overnight and basically sold them to me for the same price as a container of crawlers.

Dean must have started to get tired of me whining. He’s found a supplier for suckers around 7-8 inches at Everts.

    The squeaky wheel.
