Weeds weeds and yet more weeds

Tried last night, but the weeds were so heavy it was a constant battle. No hits, no runs and plenty of bait went back in the river (sunnies caught just before dark).

Anyone got a game plan when we hit high flow and late summer weeds?

Yep, wait for the channel cats to start hitting during the hard water season on Petewell Lake

Find a lake or resevoir. The last two weeks of August is usually hopping here. You’ll find not many people target the lakes where catfish can grow larger not fighting current their whole lives.

I have never seen the grass this bad. I think it is solid grass from Saint Paul to Saint Louis. The last two days the river has dropped over a foot here and is starting to clear up. My last trip out was Aug the 16th and if you let your bait set for ten min. it was solid grass. I still think we are going to have some good fishing yet this fall.

I hear that Dave. The water up here is starting to clear, but still plenty of nutrients in the water. More man coffee than woman’s coffee these days.

I was in a very large eddy when I tried and the grass was everywhere. I might try over the weekend if I can find some slower moving water. There is one spot that I have wanted to try and it may just be the ticket while this grass continues to flow. Hope in one hand and ____ in the other?

I fished Miss. pool 14 Thursday p.m. Water was high, fast, and the weeds were unbelieveable. I was very lucky to catch a 14 pound flathead under those conditions. He hit about 4 pm. on a cut bluegill center section. The scent probably lured him out. I had to clean my prop before heading back. The big river has to calm down before I go back.

It seemed better (less weeds) yesterday than a week ago. Still weeds but not quite as bad.

I have a break Thursday, so if I don’t make it out tomorrow night, I will try this weekend. Now that the moon is also getting dimmer, I suppose the weeds and the fishing should be good. I’ll be sure to let you know.
