The bites are not coming fast and furious by any stretch on 10000 acre lake Mendota but if you are patient and lucky, you can get a PB. Sonny’s blood strikes again. Perfect conditions, a live band playing across the lake, football on the radio, and good company. Pictured here a 26×16 and a 30×17. I only managed one shaker all night but Jake got these two bruisers and a couple shakers for the pan.

Actually there were muskies planted in Mendota in the 80s and none since and I’ve never seen one caught there. There are pike of epic proportions in there. A 40 inch minimum one fish limit has created a great pike fishery. Lake Monona and Waubesa harbor giant muskies and tiny Lake Wingra are fantastic musky lakes. I haven’t been chasing them much water temps at 82 degrees here. I catch them by accident when crappie fishing or trolling for white tipped bait fish. I head north when I want muskies as my Eagle river buddy is a fanatic. For an urban area the Madison chain, rocks for many species for the number of people around here. Perch fishing can be great at times. Something for everyone here.
