I don’t know what its like where anyone else lives but heres its a scorcher and very humid here. It feels like your wearing a wet blanket over yourself and you wake up in the morning and its 75 with fog, thats humid and hot. I know I’m ready for some cool weather with low humidity. Too me this summers got the last 5 beat for both forsure. I can’t imagine what its like working around an asphalt paveing machine, I heard thier about 140 degrees next to them, what about the guy thats driving it Is hard to even go outside, anyone else?

Had to move the lawn chair a little farther into the water today but had no problems wetting a line. This kind of weather is made for soaking your but in the river and floating crawlers on the bottom waiting for the fish to come to me. Caught several small mouth and suckers today.
August 9, 2010 at 2:38 am #891841Fished from 10 to 2:30 today. Around 1:00 my fishing partner jumped into the river to cool off. I think it would have even been worse later in the day. I was planning on cutting the grass around 8:00 tonight…I took one step outside and changed my mind. Never too hot to fish.

Easier to keep you and your beverage cool!!
the hot stuff!!!!!!!!!August 9, 2010 at 4:26 am #891850It’s not the weather, it’s life in general the last couple weeks. Bumming me out, too, cuz the bite is hot right now, no pun intended.
August 9, 2010 at 5:38 am #891854Its 12:38 in the morning right now and another storm is coming through right now, I think Iowas becoming tropical, cool weather can’t get here fast enough for me.
August 9, 2010 at 10:55 am #891860Me. I work in a warehouse and it’s hotter and more humid in there than it is outside. It’s going to be a long week. Figured I’d stay inside this weekend and stay cool and rest up.
It seems like every time I look at the weather radar, there’s another line of big storms heading across Iowa! You guys can’t seem to catch a break.

August 9, 2010 at 12:49 pm #891869Thunder ALL night long last night. Everytime the power would come back our darn answering machine would yell out something. Might have gotten a couple hours sleep at the most. To answer your question, tooooo hot for me I stayed in the house yesterday and setup 2 lead core rods.
August 9, 2010 at 1:14 pm #891874I’ll fish hot weather. What is tough this summer is all the rain and flooding. Fishing P14 has been tough. Just about the time the river starts to settle down….another heavy rain…then the river is back up and turns that pretty chocolate milk color.
August 9, 2010 at 1:21 pm #891875After all day on P4 last sunday and coming off the water a bit frayed…well, more than a bit I was hoping for cooler weather this weekend, not to be.
Walked out the back door saturday morning, stood there for a minuite or two and went back in.
Ended up visiting the Fairbault HD dealer and then hitting the A&W for some cold root beer, then home and watched movies for the rest of the day.Sunday seemed worse so I whoosed out again and managed to adjust the headlights in my truck and that was about it.
So…yes, this weather kept us home…

August 9, 2010 at 1:58 pm #891879It kept me home yesterday. The one spot I was planning on fishing didn’t have much shade and it is to rocky to wade and cool yourself off. The other spot I had in mind had a little shade.
I was off 2 weeks ago and fished in the morning when it was hot and humid. Sitting there and fishing isn’t the rough part, it’s the packing up and setting up that gets me drenched.
I wouldn’t have mind going in a boat yesterday. You can always take a dip and the wind while you are moving is nice. But it is tough shore fishing the river.
I ended up sitting in the sun a whole yesterday with the gf and when the sun came out from behind a cloud, it was if a spout in my body was turned on. I think even my toenails were sweating. I changed a bad tire out on my truck and planted some flowers. A total of about 30 minutes work or so and judging by how I felt, I don’tthink fishing for a couple of hours would have been as much fun as it normally is.
I have to make up for it this week.
August 9, 2010 at 2:50 pm #891896Friday was easy. Sat in the boat all day. To clarify “all day”, that’s from 7:30 in the morning to 9 pm. Day light.
Saturday I had a couple hour break in the afternoon, but still going strong.
Sunday afternoon the heat got to me, but not before my tee shirt was soaking through my top shirt. My hair and hat were totally soaked.
Although I felt like a steamed clam, I wouldn’t have traded it for a air conditioned room. Too good of a time horsing around with friends and the fishing wasn’t bad either!
August 9, 2010 at 2:58 pm #891898Its finally cooler here by about 20 degrees because of the rain were had all night, atleast its cooler. The rains another story and its still raining off and on right now. Talk about lightning, when the storm was coming in the weather radar screen showed the most recent lightning strikes within the last hour and the whole storms center was white, I’ve never seen so many lightning strikes, thousands of them per hour.
Theres a couple big towers about 2 blocks away for cellular phones and a radio station and It took one of those big hits that make a big bang and it made me jump when I was just about asleep and it lightninged all night and still is. I’m looking forward to all those palm trees and lakes that are supposed to start showing up soon. One things forsure I’m going to enjoy cutting firewood this fall, I never was a warm weather person, my neighbor loves it, not me.
August 9, 2010 at 6:26 pm #891971Sunburned the old satelite dome on the cooler days last week. Sat-Sun headed home to park in front of the AC with fishing videos. Before the clouds broke Sunday did manage to make it over to Houlton for 9a.m. service at outdoor theater…wonder if they will serve Goldfish crackers next week.
shawnilPosts: 467August 13, 2010 at 12:38 pm #893083In a word, no! It is August right? I don’t think the heat was every the primary reason I didn’t get out…usually cooler by the river and I always bring plenty of water and anything else necessary (sunscreen, bug spray).
I do have a few tricks (I call outdoor air conditioning) like dipping my hat and/or T shirt in the water and then wearing them wet to cool off!
Growing up in central Illinois, I remember some pretty hot summers with temps in the high ’90s and humidity, but I only remember one trip to the river where it wasn’t cooler by the water. No breeze that trip, was one of the first camping trips with my new bride. Soured her on camping, well that and a few other outdoor adventures involving inclement weather…
