Today I had some time to kill while doing some business in Darlington, WI so I took the cat equipment along and fished a while. I tried a spot where the guy at the hardware store recommended and had a hit on Junnies Stink Bait right away, however when I set the hook, line broke.

About a half hour later I moved down stream about 150 yards and threw out the stink bait and a crawler. Caught a carp on the crawler and then a sucker. Then a hit on the stink bait and landed a 12 inch channel cat. He had swallowed the worm good, so I baited up another cat fish worm and tossed it out. Before I could get the hook completely removed from the 1st cat, I had another hit. Set the hook and got a bigger channel, about 16 inches. And you guessed it, he had the broken off worm in his mouth, same yellow plastic that I started with.

I didn’t catch anymore before I had to quit. When I got home and cleaned them the larger one’s gut was full of crayfish, I mean like 6 or 7 of them. Maybe I should have been using that for bait.

I used to fish the Pecatonica alot years ago. The best thing about the river is you never know what you may catch. It used to have some real nice smallie and walleye fishing. Some deeper holes hold some big cats in them and with the snarl of logs and narrowness of the river made for a good fight. Nice report and least you got to mix in some fishing while on business. Dan

What a way to kill time!

BTW the crayfish would have been good appetizers.

And you could call it “crawdad ceviche” and served it right up!
