It’s catfish time so Mike and I headed down to Pool 4 to see if the kittys would give us a tumble. Turns out not so much. We had cut bait, bullheads and worms and they managed to ignore all of them for the most part. We did get into the cats one time, but it was in only one place and one time. They did not show up again and we caught nothing of any real size.
The sturgeon were another story. Mike caught the largest fish of the trip with a 39 1/2″ Lake Sturgeon, then turned around and added a new fish to his life list, a 29″ Shovelnose Sturgeon. You can tell from his grin he really was pleased.
We did have an interesting lesson that I am interested in watching over time. On Tuesday, our worms got to hot and you know what happened. On Wednesday morning we hit the river at 6:00 AM and the only bait we had were the greasy, smelly remains of the worms. Since it was the only game in town, we went ahead. It is difficult since the condition of your hands prevents you from holding your nose.
The great surprise was, the sturgeon loved it. We caught nine in three hours including the largest of the trip and two tagged fish.
The river dropped about three feet while we were there and I’m sure that effected the bite. Having said that, a good time was had by all which is the whole point anyway.
