… well I wouldn’t say easy, but this is a great time to be out catchin channel cats.
The post-spawn bite is goin strong and the action has been almost nonstop on our last few trips.
We usually hit the Mississippi wing dams this time of year, but the big river is still pushin flood stage down this way, so we have “downsized” a bit.
Targeting the channel edges is what has been working for us. And you have to be right on the edge for good fish.
These two gals nearly ripped the rod out of the holder when they hit, as was the case with most of the bigger fish yesterday.

With all the high water all over, this is good to hear!

    Cut bait?

Nice channels, I’d like to know if they were caught on cutbait too and what kind.

    Nope, all on dipbait.

And, sorry BK, not Sonny’s. Hoss’ Hawg kicks butt in my boat.

We usually switch to shad/cut bait when the water starts to cool – like mid to late September. But we still catch some channels on dip into October, or until we switch full time to walleyes.

And by “downsize,” I mean fishing a smaller, central Illinois river that is at normal flow for this time of year.
