The Bullhead Connection/Theory

The stories are many and the themes are the same.
You walk in any bait store, any resort, any large outdoors retailer and there they are posted on the trophy board.
    The photos are well documented.

“I was out fishing for cats and caught this nice walleye;”
“I was out fishing for walleyes and caught this nice cat;”

Seems to me that these two species have some kind of nocturnal tendencies, and depend on each other for feeding, kind of like a pilot fish swimming along with a great white shark.

My theory that I would like to lay out here is as follows.

I think the catfish is much like that pilot fish; it follows the mighty walleye around and eats the damaged or wounded prey left over from a feeding frenzy by this mighty predator.

This theory further explains the bullhead connection, between said species. If you are catching walleyes on bullheads while you are cat fishing, it is simply because the mighty walleye is on a feeding frenzy and the cats are there for the leftovers.

It’s natures way of making sure our cats have something to eat also.

So next time you see a walleye guy and catfish guy hanging out to together in the same environments, just remember its because of the natural order of things.

You may be correct. All I have to say is that the last flathead I caught had a walleye in his gullet. You may want to rethink the order of things.

I caught a 30lb flathead last year and when I got it in it spit up a 22inch walleye. Flatheads are the top predator in the river.

    Take care everyone!

Here I thought I was the top predator on the river.

I have a feeling some of those big cats that are eating walleyes are getting revenge for all the little cats the walleyes are eating. Those little channels we caught today sure looked to be about bait sized.

    DTWH….

Didn’t I tell you about the 50 pound flathead I caught that spit up enough walleye for Dean to win a tourny with.

    Real men like whiskers.

(shoot, I wasn’t going to use that line. )

If you use the word oxymoron in a sentence when disscusing catfishing.

    You might be a redneck.

I’m chill… I was trying to make a pun on the word “oxymoron”, since oxidation is rust and moron == idiot.

Perhaps my attempt at humor was a bit too oblique. It happens.

    I got it.

Sometimes we have to explain things to the walleye guys.

Certainly going to be out numbered if they come after me for that comment.
