You might want to get about a hundred of them if you want to use them to charge your trolling batteries. It says the work good for charging IPODs, cell phones, etc.

For 150.00, you could buy a couple standard deep cycle batteries.

Nice concept but at 5 watts you would need to get at least 25 of them to even begin to get any worthwhile charging.

Feh… I never bothered to look at the wattage.

Oh well. It was an idea.

Nothing beats a charged well wired system properly charged and maintained by a bank charger. You will have confidence in the power you have when you leave the house.

I have a good friend of mine who has one and loves it. He has a pontoon at a cabin with no electric at the dock. It keeps his battery charged all year. This is a single 12 volt starting battery that runs lights, radio, and occasionally a trolling motor. So, the battery takes a hit on most 2-4 day weekends and fully recovers during the week. Saves him from pulling the battery and carrying up the hill to his garage after every trip up.

The 5w/12 volt model shown here for $59.95

Cool and good timing – the wife is going to Africa with a Netbook and one of these babies will be ideal for that.

I don’t think it’s gonna work very well at night j/k

Yeah I looked into that a while ago, and for the time it actually took to charge my batteries it would’ve taken FOREVER

You could cover that pontoon with solar panels, hang a wind tubine on the back.

you would have the first Green Catfishing rig.

But that would mean getting rid of he 2-cycle and… gasp… Rowing!

Other than that I like the idea!

You could buy a cheap 15 watt panel for that price. But I don’t know how weather proof those cheaper ones are. A 15 watt panel would put out a little over 1 amp in good sunlight. Go any bigger than a 15 watt panel and you would need a charge controller and the size would obviously get bigger.
