a night where I don’t bring enough bait? On a typical flathead outing, my fishing partner and I load up with 10 or 12 bullheads, a freezer bag full of cut bait, and a couple dozen crawlers. Oh and don’t forget a few large suckers for good measure. Am I insane, or just a glass half full kinda guy?

There are few things worse in this world than running out of bait when the fish are eating the bottom out of the boat. Always bring more than you ever expect to use.

Besides, bullheads you can cut up and the suckers you can cut up, so you have a “renewable” source of cut bait there, and the crawlers will live forever in the fridge. So taking out that much cut bait doesn’t really cost anything in the long run because none of it goes to waste.

    Timely post!

Last night we came back with 4 bullies. I was getting nervous! I don’t remember ever coming home with less than a dozen after a full night fishing.

BTW running low on fuel trumps running low on bait.

I didn’t want the extra weight in the boat so I guessed at the amount of fuel in the tank. I guessed right because we never had a motor hickup, but I’ve never had the gauge peg on E before.

Time for a cat nap then off to the gas station for a fillup and then MORE bullheads!
