Went up the Mississippi from Clearwater Friday. My favorite place to fish ever. The summer bite is on. 1 northern (on cut bait), 2 Smallmouth bass, 3 suckers (kept one to replace the one I was using for bait 5 carp, 19 channel cat. Largest cat was 27″. 30 fish for the day. Not bad for one guy and one pole. Cut bait caught a few but worms were the bait of the day.

In addition, 1 deer, 1 tom turkey, 19 Bald Eagles and too many geese to count. The most puzzling thing of the day was I only saw one pair of geese with goslings. Usually, there are hundreds of goslings. Did the cold snap do them in?

On the calendar to go again this coming Friday.

I went to some back water on pool 2 hoping for some crappies. The water was 72 degrees! They must have vacated a while ago. The summer bite was on at the opening though. Missed 2 fish that hit my small sucker. I am guess they were channels.

Great fishing! In my backyard here in Lakeville I have seen a coyote a few times this spring and a lot fewer goslings. I wonder if there are more coyotes around then we think!

Weird, I was just commenting to my buddy today that there were a ton more ducklings around this year. Maybe with the mild spring those geese already grew up and flew away!

The GF had one gosling hanging around her work. I told her that the rest may have joined another clan and left this one by himself with his parents, as goslings seem to group up with one pair of adults. After hearing this and not seeing 1 gosling yet this year, I wonder if something did happen to keep their numbers down.

Must have had something to do with the two shotgun per person law that was passed last fall…no, the limit was reduced.

Hard to believe, I went up the river a week later and there were goslings everywhere. I have no idea where they were a week ago, but glad to see them.
