Welcome to In-Depth Outdoors got fish!!!
That is one heck of a first post!!!
The past week and a half has been a lot of fun. Trying new spots and moving often has really paid off. No monsters yet, but the numbers of fish has kept us busy. What a difference a couple of weeks make.
Dtro is right the past week has been very generous for nice fish.
Super Fatty 41 X 28
This one was 43″ long and had a 28″ girth. What a fun fish. Caught on a bully that I got from my friend! Thank you mister! In about 15-20 feet deep or so?
Looking at your picture Dan and your description, I think I know where I am trying tomorrow for flats. I am not saying I know that spot, but I know similar areas up here.
Nice fish!
Saturday afternoon at a river near you!
We’d been fishing for about 3 hours with nothing to show for it, so as a last-ditch effort I tossed a 9″ sucker out in about 20FOW with a small walleye jig rattle on the leader (based on the thread about crappie bobbers). It was in the water for about 5 minutes when my clicker started to zzzzzzzzzip. Pulled in the smaller one (about 5#).
I put another sucker out and within about 20 minutes, the clicker started screaming and begging for mercy… I flipped the clicker off and the hook set so hard I almost lost my rod to the river. I had to back the drag off to be able to keep my rod in my hand, but it actually came in pretty easily. It was mostly a matter of pulling the thing up from the bottom of a 20′ hole. That one came up 32/22 for 16.75#!
The second cat is not only my personal best flathead, but also my personal best catfish and my personal best fish overall!
I’d be a pretty big jacka$$ if I didn’t thank everyone who’s contributed time and experience answering questions and sharing ideas here… I doubt I’d have ever tried this if it weren’t for all the reading and talking I’ve done here.
Hmm, I haven’t fished that spot in a long time, but that’s where I started flathead fishing. That is if I am correctly identifying the spot.
Hey, at least I am not lurking when checking out these photos guys.
I didn’t start flatheading there, but I’ve met some very good people there!
Nothing like sitting next to the FW with her 12v electric blanket plugged into the truck.

That pretty much confirms that I know that spot.

No…no you’ve never been there.
I know I’ve never been there before either!

my friend caught this one sunday night at 8:45pm… scaled at 50lbs
LOOK AT THE HEAD ON THAT THING!
It never ceases to amaze me how catfish are such no-frills monsters. A huge mouth backed up by a ton of muscle… no scales, extra fins, flashy colors or anything. Just raw, primitive killing-and-eating power.
Beautiful in that classic, savage sort of way…
PS – Am I the only one who thinks a really big flathead bears a striking resemblance to a goonch?
This one I weighed. It was 15.14. Caught on cut sucker fishin for channel cats. Circle hooked. Post front bite.
Here is my 44×31 I caught last night bullhead on a 8/0 gami circle hook
