And you ate the most!!!
BurBob is the only one I know that carries a 5 gal bucket of solid snacks!!!
Great looking fish and videoes everyone, We’ve got a group of 23 going up in the a.m.
Will report back next week with a report and hopefully some good pics.
Jack
In the order they were caught….
1st fish of the trip. 56″ 42lb caught out of Clementson.
2nd fish 51.5″ caught in the Gap
4th fish 50.5″
45″
59.25″ x 23.75″
53.75″
56″
I personally had an outstanding year. 6 fish over the trophy mark with a personal best of 59.25″ (although it was snagged near the tail which made for a hell of a fight)
I finally broke the 60″ mark! Cant tell by the pic that I was happy about that.
I sent her off with the phone number for Jenny Craig.
We also had a great time this year had 2 new guys new to sturgeon fishing Dan Armagost and his son Dan
We had 2 great days Thurs amd Friday
Sat was slow as most guys will agree
We did boat 37 fish for the trip with here are some of
the good weights 61-1/2 / 54-1/2 / 46 / 44-1/2 / 43-1/2 / 41-3/4 / 37-1/2 / 34
28-3/4 .and several in the 30 and under
also had 1 nice Walleye about 5 lbs Dan Sr kicked our butt
with all the big weights also the 61-1/2 got him 2nd place in the contest hope to see you guys again next year
the Frabill net that we won will come in real handy here are a few pics
again thanks to the WigWam Resort and the Sturgeon Excursion

And my first sturgeon (what a beautiful fish) – was a double with a nice little flat from Dan! Sturgeon ran 28″ and they both hit within 5 minutes on our first spot!
Team Canoe is out in full force! BIG sturgeon watch out, we will find you and you will tip us! Looking forward to tangle with you!
Didn’t know if you guys took the canoe down there. I asked because I have seen a dead sturgeon floating at the Harriet Island dock. You never know when or if they are going to establish themselves on pool 2 and the Minnesota, especially when it eems the water quality is getting better.
There are lots of shovel nose sturgeon in the Minnesota, that might be what they were talking about. Kinda like this little one I got on Monday.
The fish I saw floating was certainly not a shovelnose. If it were, it was easily double the state record.
I do want to catch a shovelnose. I think they are cute.
I agree with the “cute” comment pug. Here is a Minnesota shovel nose from last year.
The coloring and look of this one was amazing!
Most of them I’ve caught were in the 1-3 lb range, except for the first one I caught back somewhere around 2003. I was holding it by the tail at my belt and it’s nose was touching the ground, making it in the 36″ range and I’d guess 7-9 lbs. Alas no digital camera at the time but I did have witnesses. There’s gotta be a few more bigger ones in there.
I lost my stur-ginity Saturday night. Here’s a 40 that was the biggest of the night.
What a great season it’s been so far!!!
We’ve been getting 12-18 fish everytime out.
Approx totals
26 over 45
8 over 50
2 over 55
I think that 60+ up at LOW is calling my name though. It time to make a run up there me thinks.
and last but not least, the one I’m most proud of:
Thanks guys.
I have a whole camera full of awesome pics of boat mates too. It’s been a lot of fun!
The one last thing I’d like to catch this year before the season ends is a tagged fish. We are probably somewhere around 115 fish and not one tag. Approx 15 lamps, but no tag
Fishing was really slow Friday night, but we managed 2 fish, the biggest being this 41″
My first sturgeon ever (muskie guy through and through). We ended up with 4 on Friday night on the croix, all on cut bait.
Nice fish! That first one takes you by surprise, doesn’t it. I’m a muskie guy too, but the first sturgeon was something else. I thought my muskie gear would be able to horse them in. I didn’t expect them to bend my XH muskie rod in half and start stripping line off my calcutta.

If a rod builder really wants to test their fresh water gear, it’s tough to beat a sturgeon!
Nice first fish!
