This is a question of personal preference. Flatheads like live bait. Bullheads are common and in Wisconsin, you can use bluegills. Channel cats in the spring like night crawlers as well as anything, but cut fish like suckers or shad work well. You can also use prepared baits. I run Sonny’s blood bait most of the time. Just about anything will work when they are hungry.

BrianK’s socks rubbed on anything will catch “em.
    The original “stinkbait”.

Took the socks right out of your mouth you mean.

Sonny’s, Secret 7 for numbers, cut sucker chunks are my personal favs.

I mainly use cutbait for channels. Cut shad, cut creek chub, cut sucker.

Yup – cut bait is the ticket for me too. The oilier, the better. Shad, shiners, suckers, chubs, a few fatheads sharing a hook…

Moores Bait and Tackle in Minneapolis. He will have suckers, that is the most common to use and cut up.

You can buy suckers to cut up but I prefer to catch fish on the body of water i am on and use that. It doesn’t take long to catch a sucker or sheepie or whatever if you put a few crawlers down. Sometimes the ticket here for cut bait is cut bluegill but check your regulations where you are to make sure you can do that. And Brian may think to use prepared bait for numbers IE small fish but I seem to do OK for nice big whoppers with it from 42 degree water to 80.
