Catfish meeting in the basement of Obb’s Sports Bar in St Paul (1347 Burns Ave) on Saturday, April 10 from 2-4 PM. Please RSVP to me at [email protected] as space is limited to 50 people. Free parking, mostly on adjacent streets.

Just to give people an idea of the topics at this meeting, I will be going over recent work in the East Metro Area (St Croix, Pool 2) from the last few years, catfish sampling and aging specifically. The catfish tagging project will be another topic in addition to the catfish diaries, covering goals, results to date, and future work. I will address any questions/concerns about the diaries, catfish topics, or other topics of concern to the best of my abilities. Some recent contaminant, Asian carp, and commercial fishing information will also be presented. Anyone that has diary information from last year that I do not have yet can drop it off at this meeting. I don’t anticipate taking the full two hours with my material, but wanted to account for plenty of questions and discussion.

Hope to see you there and don’t forget to RSVP.

I am still waiting before I commit. I don’t want a seat held for me to go cold that could be used by someone else.

Ok, so I spent some time doing a little testing today, as well as confirmed that we will have a Wi-Fi connection at Obb’s. With that given, we are going to try and stream this event live for everyone to see! Here is the URL to the broadcast. You might have to sign up for an account to see it. There will be a chat box next to the stream for those viewing to ask questions if need be.

Sweet! Then I can still participate via my phone…while fishing.

I am kidding of course! I am still not sure if I am going, but I wouldn’t use fishing as an excuse not to go. If I can be there, I will be there. I have no Flash support on my phone to play the stream anyway.

Joel, we’re leaving for a quick trip up to LOTW’s over the weekend. Hopefully it’s possible that Dtro can save the video for the folks (like me) that would really like to be there but can’t(?)

I’m pretty sure that UStream allows an option to record and archive.

Too bad you won’t be able to make it. I was hoping to avoid having it this late but every time I tried to pick a day, there was always something that messed it up. And of course it looks like it will be a beautiful day. Have fun fishing!

Like I said…no matter what date a person picks, someone isn’t going to be able to make it.

Audio on the archived stream is unintelligible. I wonder if we could get the PowerPoint or whatever was up on the screen?

    So how was it?

It was a very informative meeting. A big thanks to Joel Stiras for taking the time to share some really interesting information.
He had around 15-20 people that enjoyed the presentation.

And I missed it for crappies that weren’t in the shallows yet up north. We could have maybe gotten some if we wanted to squeeze between the boats in the usual places, but it isn’t worth having a fist fight over.

Anywhoo, anyone care to recap the info? Anyone else have an issue with the audio at Ustream? Joel, can we get a copy of the slide show here?

Yes, I really am sorry about the quality of the live feed and the archive (which is basically the same thing).

The lighting in the basement was bad, the audio was even worse, and I had substandard equipment to begin with. Josh (Shack) has an archive on Live Stream (account HSOLive) which is visually better, but the audio is still pretty crappy.

I’m glad I was able to attend, I learned a lot of interesting things about Cats.

Joel basically went over his data that was collected so far, historical data, and things that they are hoping to learn from the diaries. Plus some bonus data about things such as PFOS and the proposed Nelson mining site.

Thanks for trying…that would have been super cool if it had worked as intended!

Sounds like we missed an interesting event..Thanks Joel

Yes any way you would of approached live streaming anything in the basement of Obbs would be a very tough task. Even with the best equipment you can get. Great place, but between that fridge noise which made my zoom/boom mic fight over Joel or the fridge, to the lighting (did not want to shine lights in Joel’s eyes), and a poor internet WiFi signal, it just was not the ideal location to stream live video.

On the upside though, I did record the entire meeting (no cuts in and outs like the live footage) in 1920 X 1080 HD . For Mplspug or Brian K, I would have no issue burning up a couple DVD’s and dropping them in the mail if the interest is truly their. If more would like to see the meeting I would even upload the entire 2+ hours to the Tube. It would be in 10 minute (+ or -) segments though. I still have not looked at the recorded footage, but I know it will be a 100% better than the live.

Short of that I thought the meeting went off with out a hitch, very informative, and put together extremely well. It was nice to meet up with new (other) cat-guys also. Thanks Joel~

That would be cool. And I appreciate the effort by you guys trying to record us for those who were unable to attend.

    No Kidding Shack!
Thank you and Dtro for doing this.

If it’s alright with Joel, I would like to post it on IDO by using YouTube.

I have no problem with the video being posted for whoever wanted to see it. Too bad we had the audio issues and that fridge to deal with. Thanks to all who attended on such a nice day. I’ll make the PowerPoint available too, but I need to spend some time fiddling with it to make it a little smaller by altering picture resolution. It’s a little over 11 mb right now but think I can knock it down to a couple mb without changing it and the pictures should still look fine.

I don’t suppose I can post the PowerPoint Show on here for people to download.

Shoot it to my email ad and I’ll see if I can get it uploaded to our server.

We’re changing servers so it might take some time, but I’m sure we can get it done.
