I guarantee its a channel cat, and i happen to know that 200 more cats were dropped in to that same lake on Friday with 40 of those fish over 25 inches.

I fished Mill Ruin for a good 2 hours last night with nothing, not even a nibble, to show for it. So I moved to what’s become my favorite shore spot and threw a line in. About a half-hour later a barge came in, so I had to pull my line in and wait. After it had passed I put my line back out for another half-hour with nothing more.

So I moved upstream about 100 yards and the line was in the water for about 10 minutes before my clicker took off. I was sitting on a bench reading and stood up, counted to 20, and shut the clicker off. YANK!

It was a short battle, but I won.

It ran 9.5#, I’ll have measurements on it in a bit when I prepare it for the next stage of its existence: the frying pan. Channel cat for supper tonight, baby!

There’s NOTHING like eating food you bagged in the wild yourself.

There’s some good fishing in that parking ramp.

LOL, I stopped by the ramp where my buddy Jeff works to show off the fish and get a pic snapped.

No flatheads last night, but had one good run on a bullhead, but a swing and a miss. This channel cat came on a big chunk of cut bait on a double action 8/0 with drag set on tight. He hooked himself. I thought it was a flat when it first surfaced, but I was a little disappointed when we landed it, but a PB for sure. This thing had the biggest head I’ve ever seen. Forgot my scale and tape in my other pack , but I”m going with 34″ and 13-15 lbs. Any other guesses?

How could that beast be a disappointment. You’d be more disappointed with a flathead that size.

Point well taken, Pug. I’ll rephrase and say “I was really looking forward to landing my first flat of the year, but instead check out this sweet channel” Funny thing , that big channel is the second fish this year where I thought I had a flat. Here is the first. I got this one on a 6″ bullhead and an adrenaline pumping clicker run.

I would say that 13-15 would be a good estimate… Nice channel

I understood what you meant. Sometimes I just like posting for the sake of posting.

I bet that beast fought you like a sea monster, too. I know my 29×15 (8.57# or so I think) fought like a big flattie. Pound for pound I think channel catfish in the current have the fightingest fight of all.

Flathead was caught on good old moores bully’s and the channel was cutbait. The water was quite high, fishing current seems. This one was right in the heavy current.

Not the first flattie of roughly that size I’ve seen caught right in the current this year. We hauled 2 out that way, one 10# and one 21# one night a while back on the Miss.

    Nice trip!

Finally a decent channel cat makes it in the boat for a picture.

This whiskered critter crushed a cut sucker while drifting a side channel in 12fow. Man did that feel good

Nice fish Bret, how big was she? The coloring of that fish is gorgeous. Looks like a bronze statue.

I didn’t get a measurement because this fish would not settle down for a picture and we needed to get her back in the water ASAP. As you can see she did get a battle scar as it was I’m sure she was fine, maybe just a bit sore the next morning.
The cat was a solid double digit whiskered critter though.

In that case I condemn you for getting her back as soon as possible. Er, I mean commend. I might even call you by your real name from now on for that.
