Seems like it will be a busy weekend. I didn’t know it fell on Easter. I think in lieu (thanks Google for the spelling) of Easter, we could postpone it a week. Since it was skipped last year, we don’t necessarily have to be formal with the date. I’d rather maximize turnout, especially since this is the the unofficial start of catting when we all get to say hello at one time to our brothers before the season begins.

I’d be interested for sure. Nothin’ goes better with beast hot off the grill, than the funk of the Ruins.

My bad, I thought you already had one. Don’t worry about the lurkers. Most of them are not willing to drive to downtown Saint Paul.

Yeah, the Ruins isn’t worth trying without a boat. But I didn’t know you could lock through the Coon Rapids dam?

ok so i’m going to try mill ruins for the first time this weekend.

is anyone else going to be there?

if so just look for the 6’3″ guy wearing a browning hat, that’ll be me. and i’ll be fishing with my dad.

i’m quite excited for this. i’m a little ashamed to say this, but i’ve never caught a catfish (except for bullheads of course). almost all the fishing i do any more is dedicated to catching as many species as possible in my lifetime. as of right now i’m at 40 species solid

those durn catfish have been eludeing me for way to long!

anyway, my name is ben erb so if you see me, feel free to approach me

I fished 494 once just to try it, but the water level was real low. I fished off the ‘deck’ and down shore. Upstream on the other side of the island where the rocks are, I’ve fished there for channels.

I have never fished a dog park, so not even sure where that is.

If you head down there now, I can guarantee you won’t have to deal with low water

It might be a good time to fish the sand north of the island though. Usually it is pretty shallow.

well i tried today for a few hours with no luck.

i had something tapping on a crawler for a little bit, but no real bites.

tons of carp were breaching, it was insane

i will be back for sure. i liked this place

We got one and saw another caught. We had a few more bites, but you have to realize they are light biters up there now. You almost might have better luck trying to set the hook as soon as you get a tap.

You might have better luck using a circle and waiting until the buggers hook themselves.

    22″ night mill

Missed a couple more – Ryank got a 20″ also.

Bite was pretty good last night with the 22″ coming 5 minutes after we got there

I think all the missed fish were pretty small.

That appears to be this years trend. A fish for each guy in the group, bites coming within minutes of each other and a lot more nibbles than catches. I think someone is going to be there at right place, right time and come back with a good story.

Did you notices any ulcers on the fish slightly smaller in diameter than a pea?

Nope, both of the fish we caught looked to be in great health.

Been to the mill now a fair amount of times – last night got into a 24″ channel which was 5-6 pounds and on Friday night got into a 23″. Pulled roughly 20+ cats between friday and Sunday. I’ll get some pics up later in the day.

Also last night RyanK and I had the pleasure to fish with TCcat for a couple of hours. Think we found another hard-core fishing partner because he showed up around 12pm! Great to meet you TCcat, I’m sure we will fish together again soon!

On Sunday we got into the Crappies pretty good, with most crappies running 10+ inches. Think we caught about 10 total.

    Look forward to the picts.

I know the April Fools gathering has not been discussed in a while and I know this weekend is Easter, so I wonder how many people would be interested in an April 10 gathering. It could be pretty informal, BYOB and I can haul up a grill. I just don’t know how much interest there is. I have also heard that the police have asked people to move vehicles parked on the side between the 2 canals, so I don’t know how the parking would go.

April 10th is the MNDNR Metro Catfish Meeting from 2-4pm. I don’t know if we could work around that? I will be there from 2-4 along with some other IDO’ers.
