As I was scraping the ice off the driveway tonight, I was thinking about where I would rather be this time of year.

The bed came to mine along with the old rocking chair with the FW’s electric throw over my legs. That’s for another post.

If I could slip out for a couple weeks I was wondering were I would go.

Red River. That’s nice and all, but colder and channel cats just don’t fit into my dream location.

It was in the 50’s in MO today. That’s not bad. Skeeters aren’t going to be out yet. Truman Reservoir for some Blues maybe?

Texomha? Big water and Big Fish. Yup it would have to be a trip for Blues this time of year.

Where else is there to go to kiss some big whiskers in January/February?

Not sure if the timing is “perfect” but the James River.

Next would be the Cumberland for Hybrid Stripers, sure I could find some cats willing to play as well.

Next on the list would be Santee-Cooper.

If i could have 5-6 straight days to “just fish”, I could name a bunch of places…

    MN river!!!!

Mississippi river (pick your pool) below Alton or Keokuk for flats and blue cats, or one of the upper pools (16, Cassvile) for flatheads.

    James river

    Trinity River (gar, catfish)

    Kansas r.

    Tawakoni Tx

I could name a few others, but I’d even love a trip to Kaskaskia river – back where it all began!

Would like to get back to the Potomac River again. Making plans now for the James. From what I’m reading, the blues don’t mind the cold either.

Southern California has a lot of good options too…just bring a gun.

I have a couple videos from the Cumberland and the Potomac but I don’t know how to post um.

Check out falcon resevoir in the rio grande valley of Texas. Good cat fishing and slab crappies to boot this time of year! How about Santee cooper?

That reminds me, planning a Washington DC vacation this summer…now if I can only make a case for a little side trip for blue cats…just a few hours…

As far as coming up to MN, I do occasionally make it up there for business trips. Seems like they’re all Feb. to April. I’d love to add a night sometime and hitch a ride on the MN. In all fairness it’s not that far from here to even drive. If I’m coming up again this year, have to at least get some wings and beers at Joe Senser’s (?). It was right by my hotel last time…

I also get to Louisville a few times a year, would be a fun side trip to fish the OH for blues there too… just never quite works out. Get’s hard to get FW on board with those ideas when you travel too much!!!

That’s where I started too, probably about 1950. I remember it well, the year just seems a bit hazy.
