Thats a 20lb cat Rons holding,he just makes it look tiny because he is a Giant among the catfishermen.

Love the gar mount you did for him, looks great and scares the nudists off the beach at Everts.(Well almost all,but that BK likes to live on the wild side)

You should fish the Minnesota River. It is full of channel cat that size. That’s how the flatheads get so big. And some of the walleyes.

That’s a peach. About 2 weeks ago I was up on pool 11 catching walleyes and I had a jigging spoon on and the sauger that I caught was actually shorter than the spoon. Quite commical, as it was the nicest fish I caught all day.

Glad you liked the gar mount, it was quite interesting to do! Ron really does like to send me challenging work. Keeps me on my toes!

He hasn’t asked about it yet. I was just getting comfortable doing his big fish! Although I really do like a challenge…hmmm…maybe I should have a chat with him.

I’ve caught them that size on and 8/0 circle. I’ve had the tiny ones in the aquarium too. I’ve been in a spot and cast netted 50 5″ers at a time and I’ll tell you, they don’t just fall out of the net. It’s a mess. Channel cat reproduction in Iowa A-OK.

There’s a little lake near my house that’s only 18 acres of surface. Last year (2008) the weeds were grown in nice near the fishing pier and we were catching 3/4# bluegills regularly. The fish grow big because they’re scattered unless there’s weed beds and they only grow in fishable locations intermittently.

Anyway, one day I reeled my bobber in to refresh my minnow and lo and behold there was a largemouth (ironic name in this case) on the hook that was the length of two knuckles on my right index finger. I couldn’t get my pinky finger in its mouth. I had to work it off the ice jig I was using and it couldn’t swallow a crappie minnow in one gulp because it was too long.

2.5 inches, tops. It couldn’t even wiggle the bobber on my ultralight rig.

    Crazy stuff.

Here is a picture of my friend Newt with a Mad Tom from the Red River. That is a 5/0 hook and a piece of cut bait as big as the fish. Sorry about the ugly white rod.

There is a good example of being careful how you compose your picture. Rod placement should not take away from the 2 main subjects, the fish and the fisherman.
