Getting sick of these turtles!

When I am out fishing cats I seem to hook into at least one turtle. Today I was fishing wingdams for walleyes and got one on a jig. Anyone else have this problem. They sure are fun until they come up to the boat, then you learn how mean a turtle can be. Gloves are necessary!

You need to fish faster than a turtle.

I saw the title for this post and assumed that it came from BK ….. We had lots of what we think were bait stealing turtles, but haven’t caught any… YET

Having the same problem in pool 3 as well. I’m using crawlers so they aren’t as big a problem, but they seem to be on every wing damn. And I’m having a lot of bait stolen. Is it the turtles or is it something else? I know pool 4 has a lot of bluegills on the wing damns, but I was catching them.

Turtles it is. One night while bored waiting for the “bite” I dropped my aqua-vu down and a decent softshell walked up on the bottom and nosed the cammera for a few seconds. Pretty cool. Wish I had a method to record this.

Do people actually eat softshells? I’ve heard they emit an unpleasant odor, but one night we caught 6 and I didn’t notice a stench. Not that I would eat a turtle.
