I just took up cattin a month ago and seem to do just fine during the day. Here is my new personal best. 42″ long 28″ girth. Quite a fiasco. It got hooked around a tree when I had another rod, a drift sock and an anchor in the water. By myself I managed to pull everything in, get the bow mount in the water and chased it around the tree and got it free. Then came the landing part. My Beckman was not ready, handle retracted and under my tackle box. Found my glove and got it on with one hand and hauled her in by hand. Anyways, as a walleye guy I must say that catmen do have all the fun! After I got her in the boat I idled over to the sheriff and asked them to take a picture for me, what great guys.

For pete’s sake you could have taken off the glove for the picture!!

    Aren’t they a hoot!?

I’m going to bet a quarter you’ll go to sleep thinking about that fish and landing for a few nights.

    Congrats!!

It’s the little kitties that get you, been guilty of the glove thing too so don’t let these guys beat you up too bad! Nice cat, be forewarned that they get under your skin, next thing you know you’re calling in late to work with feline fever.

    Great post Brad!

You should re-post this in the walleye forum. Over there they will be like “Good thing you had that glove on”, and “Wow, even with a glove on I wouldn’t put my hand in that mouth”. Sally’s.

Next time just photo shop the glove out.

Give me a break about the glove! I am used to catching fish with teeth. OK, next time, no glove.

    Somewhere it is written…

Using a glove to bring a fish into the boat is ok, but photo’s should always be gloveless unless your name starts with an S and ends with a Y.

My opinion is that you need to hold just one cat gloveless, one channel and one flat. I think of it as an initiation. Once you have received your cat digit tattoos a glove is OK. I’ve not caught one personally that has baptised me, but I landed someone else’s monster. Took a while for the skin missing from my thumb to be replaced.

Anyone see Bear Gryll’s episode where he noodles a big one out of the Louisiana (I think) Bayou? Search it out on YouTube, it is pretty cool. CPR cat guys you might want to not watch the end of it.

OK, I will use the glove to bring the fish in the boat. I have already buried a hook in my hand this year and don’t want to do it again. After the hook is out of the fish then no glove, promise.

Funny you ask, I used a palomar knot on the hook to the leader and leader to swivel, then I used a fish n fool (super uniknot) to attached the mono leader to the braid mainline.

I’m flabbergasted you brought it in using that uni knot.

In all seriousness, I found that the super uni works better with braid, and the palomar works better with mono. When tying the super uni with mono it makes the line all kinked up.
