Got some questions for the pros. I am a newbie and have yet to land a flat head this year. I have been out the last three nights. I am using bluegill for bait can’t find a place to get bullhead. The first night I had one run the bait clicker out I engaged the reel let the line tighten up and set the hook had him on for a few seconds then gone. Mon night got the poles out 9pm 9:30 first hit ran bait clicker out engaged reel let line tighten and set the hook, felt like a good one. Got him all the way to the boat 10 fow and when I tried to lift him off the bottom the hook pulled out darn!! Last night the one hit I had, took the line under the boat and in the dark thought the line was down stream and when I set the hook the line was cut on the corner of the boat darn!! Most of my hits have come in the first hour, after the moon comes out it is dead. Is full moon a bad time to fish.

Some say full moons are tough but I feel you should fish when you can. Bluegills are better for bait where legal than bullies IMHO. When you have a full moon times around moon rise and set seem to be best. Give me a dark night anyday. This year with water temps 10 degrees or lower than normal make this year tougher than normal years.

    Welcome fella catter!

I will be the second to say I don’t like full moon nights…and I’ll be the first to say that it has NEVER stopped me from going.

My question would be what are you using for line and a hook and forget about the moon!

Two poles are rigged with 80 lb power pro. The pole I broke the line on was 36lb braided dacron. Hooks are 6/0 gamakatsu octopus. I have ordered some 10/0. I am not giving up yet.

    That’ll teach you.

I have caught some nice fish on full moon nights…but I still cringe when I see that big circle on the calender.

Remember August can be a great time for half an 8 inch sucker!

    I seriously don’t give a crap about Full Moon anymore, I don’t.

This question seams to come up more in late summer. Simple answer is post spawn bite. This also seams to coincide with a better daytime bite. I don’t know… if you are concerned about the big full moon, go fish in the day in their home. If you are in the right spot, you’ll get bit.
