I was in Walmart this last weekend and there was this older fella greeting guest and talking to himself a bit.

As I approached, I heard him ask himself “When does stink bait go bad?” Which made me start thinking…what is the shelf life and how long does it take to go bad?

I was about to ask him more about these questions, but just at that time, this voice came over the loud speaker…

CLEAN UP ON ISLE 3 PLEASE! and off he went.

Have you heard the story from Larry the Cable guy about his grandma getting busted at bass pro shops for stealing stink bait and duck calls. Apparently she was having a problem with wind in her pipes or gassy with noise while walking through the shop. Maybe thats a sign that might make one think stink bait has gone bad.

I’ve used some that was a couple years old. If you have some you can bring it back to life by putting a little canola oil in there and mashing a couple handfuls of mayflies in there never hurts. If you are as cheap as I am, I get a walmart spatula and put whatever is left in the old container into a new one. I’ve never had a catfish complain yet about bait past its date.

It goes bad when you throw up trying to use it.

Forgive me, I don’t fish for cats, but if it’s already called stink bait how the heck would you know?

I don’t know about all brands but bee jay is bad when it no longer will spread on crackers without breaking them.

For recipe, click on Granny Clampit’s Roadkill Recycling website. (Not avail. in West Bend, Coates and Calif.) Or watch the new Tonite Show to see if anyone else gets a bucket of melted yellow snow over their head.

We dared a guy one time to try some of that and he said it wasn’t bad. If anyone knows netman, have him tell his big Eddie story.

I would say when the viscosity gets out of grade and the oils begin separating from the thickner. But thats just an oil guys opinion. LOL

    Happy stinking.

Several times over the years I have wondered aloud if my stink bait may have gone bad. Spouses response is always the same. “How would you know?” Never mention it anymore.

It can sit around quite a while (years) and still be effective. Just have to get the consistency right.

I don’t use it much anymore, and have an assortment of old baits. Whenever I break some out, it works.

My go-to brands are Wicked Sticky and Sonny’s. Haven’t tried the Team Catfish bait, I need to finish off some old stash before I pick up anymore.

I do know a guy that mixes limburger cheese with his home made concoctions, on warm days the lid rises from the cure.

Chris ask Wellman about the joke I sent him through the site here a couple years ago, he said he cracked up right in his office.
