Try this – use cut sucker, shad, fatheads. put them in just a little stinkbait right before you use it. rig is same as for cutbait. Cats think the usual cutbait is a little more delicious! I think it’s easier to handle too.

I had both earlier in the year, but one of the dogs ate my whole jar of Sonny’s!!!

I have yet to EVER catch anything on stink, ever. That’s in about 4 years of trying!

    Why am I shouting?!

Anyway, all I ever see happen with cut is a jillion lil tugs and no serious fish… Fiddlers suck, literally!

    There I go shouting again!

The little pom discovered the rag I use to wipe my hands when using stink bait. Then I had it still in the tacklebox when I went to the cabin and my pug got a whiff of the jar.

I have never seen these dogs so excited and so heck bent on finding and eating whatever it is they are smelling.

I’ve used bloodballs (not really sure what there called) plenty of times, and I’ve never seen my rod tip so still…

    Can’t say I’ve ever used bloodballs…but…

Until a few years ago I wasn’t a believer in stink.

So Catten Addict and I had a fish off one night. We fished one spot on Pool 4 and didn’t move. At the end of the early evening the score was.

    BK’s stink:5
    Catten Addicts cut bait: zip

Now my largest cat was only 4-5 pounds, but I’ll take action over no action any day.

All I can say is if a person uses a known brand of stink bait and you don’t get a bite in 10 – 15 minutes, move!

This spring I compared Sonny’s Original with Uncle Josh’s Rotten Shad, Chicken Liver flavor and cut sucker.

Rotten Shad came out on top
Sonny’s and Chicken Liver tied for second
    and
Cut Sucker brought in 1 fish, but it was the largest.

The bite was so fast that when the first rod was set into the holder there was a bite.

For action, always hae some stink close by.

PS dump the tiny treble and use a circle like the first photo shows…or at least use some larger trebles like Mr. Channel Cat WhiskerKev uses.

Just last week I picked up a bucket of Danny King’s punch bait….
I haven’t tried it yet but it’s stinky enough
It has some kind of fiber infused in it,don’t know what exactly what, but the old timers around here used to use chicken feathers or cattail fuzz..
Your supposed to just push a treble into it ,then pull it out at an angle to load the hook….

Maybe this weekend I can give it a try…

    Now that’s interesting.

I’m gonna have to start keeping the 7 around again. I keep forgetting it in the boating box.

This is SO GROSS! Haha. I took a shower as soon as I got home at like 4am sunday and could STILL smell it! And Mikes truck was also horrible as it sat in the sun for a bit

It was my first time using it last Saturday and also the first time we actually had success. I’m sure this is no coincidence, we seem to get a little better each year. Jus sayin.

But all in all..Lather the [censored] on, throw it in the river and let the current bring the scent down for the fish to follow. It seems like a pretty good idea to me.

P.S. BK- I always sign my posts! Can’t you see P

I guess I have to look a little closer Mallory!

These guys have so much knowledge. Someone on Ido has tried pretty much everything at least once and has an opinion on it.

It’s a great place to speed up a persons learning curve.

Somethings will or might not work for your specific location, that’s what each person needs to decide.

As for globbing stink bait on…I think you’ll be surprised how little a person needs for it to be effective. On of the reasons I cut the tubes in 1/2. But it’s relatively cheap and I know there are times it makes me feel better to toss a wad out…and hope I don’t get the FW spattered.

    Ever catch sheephead on stinkbait?

One day I was catching sheephead on crawlers so I switched to stinkbait and got heavy pecks, but no fish. I wonder, but those sheephead have a propensity for getting the hook and bait straight to the back of the mouth to crush their prey, so I have my doubts too. I’d figure I would have hooked one by now.

This is true I’ve learned alot since meeting you and joining this forum. Mike is out fishing right now, said he’d be home late. I was going to go but decided I needed more than a few hours of sleep. I just can’t handle going to work with no sleep anymore (and I’m only 22! But trust me, I’ve lived those days out) So what have I been doing for the past hour or more? Looking at old posts and searching random catfishing tidbits online. I am officially addicted. The know-how is coming and the passion is there. And there is nothing, NOTHING, that compares to the adrenaline rush reeling in that fish in the dead of the night not knowing what could be on the other end.

So thanks everyone for the help so far! I’m looking forward to each year getting better

I’ve got the coolest wife in the world!! Anyway, fished the mouth of the Kinnie again with no doing. I had a 19″ channel on worms when it was still light out. The only action after sunset was a Frisbee… I’ll post a picture later

That pretty much sums it up!

Mike that wouldn’t have been one of those invasive Big Head Frisbees would it?

    Little known catfish tip:

Go to the Mississippi River Forum, click on Mississippi River Catfish. The at the bottom select “view all”.

That’s where it was all happening prior to this forum was created. TA-UNS of great info from the St Croix too.
