Spent a week out at Goose Island fishing for anything and everything. Took one night to fish for flatheads in a normal spot with a live gill and wasn’t set for 20 minutes before hooking into this beast…..41 inches and 35 pounds.

Finally got on the board this season. Got these two from Pool 16 downstream from Quad Cities. Hardly impressive compared to some of the others posted up here, but considering I was working on oar power most of the trip, I’ll take it!

I thought about the girth after I put her back in. I think she went upper 20’s to low 30’s I know it’s in my top 4 or 5 cats ever biggest from pool 4 by alot.

Yes they have moved to their wintering areas.

We had a slow run Saturday night using a large chunk of cut bait.

If you would of had some spray paint we could have made it look like a sauger…

    Nice fish!

Well, I had a fun first year. I learned enough to keep me interested in doing it again next year. I will get an earlier start than Aug, though…

Here is my PB at 18 lbs and another at 17 lbs. Until next year, keep on top of the ice and good luck to you all!

This post is about 6-months late, but below are a few photos from from fish over the 2009 season. Pre-spawn was by far the greatest bite I had ever encountered in my years of fishing. I fish solo the majority of the time and all photos are from a timed camera sitting on the boat bench. My fishing companion has 4-legs and cant get that camera gig down yet.

Overall, it was a highly sucessful summer. I had numerous fishless nights. Several nights of dinks and several nights of a couple 40″ fish. I am greatful for any time I can get away from work or grad school, or away from the house and town.

FYI the dog goes bonkers at the sound of a clicker. She loves fish
    enjoy

    WOW!! – Nice fish, Brian.
I’ve been sitting here daydreaming about summertime catting and the thermometer says 0 degrees and heading lower. Those pics of your’s were exactly what I needed tonight. We still need to hook up for a night on the St Croix – I’ll chase you down next spring.
