What’s a flat of crawlers?

Picked up my crawlers from Moore’s tonight. I am in the habit of putting them in commercial worm bedding–it’s much cleaner. So I rinsed them off and thought I’d take a snapshot of the number of crawlers in a flat.

    Here sturgeon, sturgeon, sturgeon…

You didn’t really put them on a white towel, did you? -)

That’s a great measurement for those who haven’t seen a flat.

You didn’t have to go through all of that, I could have told you there are 500 in a flat.

Ryan-I was just talking to Bob about this and we were planning on just cleaning the worms we needed for the day before we left for the ramps, I like your all at once idea way better. Couple of quick questions:
what kind of bedding do you use? how long are they good for in that bedding? Do you transfer them back to dirt after the excursions. does Bob want the styrofoam boxes back then?
    Thanks,JB

Yes, it’s a white towel, but it’s been relegated to rag status

Here’s the bedding I use, Jarrett. I just follow the directions on the package. I leave them in the bedding. It provides food for them, and I’ve kept them in it for quite a while.

I’m not sure if Bob wants the boxes back. I just dumped mine in a bucket and left the box there this year because I have just had them cluttering up the basement in the past.

Did you right or left handed crawlers?

Ralph, from the picture, count 47 over from the lower left and 17 up. Ensure you keep that one for me. I got a feelin’ that one is prime for a nice Redhorse.
