My scale was bouncing over 60 too and Brian and I had to take multiple readings until we were satisfied and in agreement. Brian noticed if the scale was not plumb the reading was skewed.
Yeah, it’s really strange, when you’re dealing with a huge net and a 57 lb catfish, it can be hard to hold the scale so it’s level.
What we noticed after taking about 10 readings on the scale, and in playing with the scale later after releasing the fish, was that if Darren’s scale is not level, the part that we hooked the net onto actually seems to act as a lever and pulls HARDER on the gauge, and you can get a reading much higher than if it’s level. We did take off the scale’s weight at the end and arrived at 57 for a total.
